Overview

The Matec FUV170T is a travelling column machine with two work areas on one bed: a rigid table of 700 x 500 mm for 3-axis work and a swivel turntable with a Ø 650 mm (Ø 25.6 in) face plate for 5-axis work. The column covers 1,700 mm (66.9 in) in X, 540 mm (21.3 in) in Y and 460 mm (18.1 in) in Z, so it can serve either table or, as MATEC puts it, run pendulum and long bed machining.

Loads differ sharply between the two tables. The rigid table takes 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). The swivel bridge, which tilts from -50° to +110° in B with a 360° C axis, is rated for workpieces up to a total weight of 300 kg (661 lb). Heavy plates and long components belong on the rigid side, small 5-axis parts on the turntable.

The spindle is a 12,000 rpm unit with 15 kW (20.1 hp) and HSK63 or SK40 tooling. No torque is given. The magazine holds 48 tools, with 60 and 120 as options, each up to 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). Rapid traverse is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), slower than the 48 m/min of the FUV620, which is the usual trade for a long X axis on a moving column.

Glass scales and direct rotary encoders are standard in all axes. The machine is 4,400 mm long, 2,600 mm wide and 3,000 mm high and weighs 17,000 kg (37,478 lb). The FUV190T is the same machine with 1,900 mm of X travel and a 900 x 500 mm rigid table.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How is the work area of the FUV170T laid out?

A travelling column moves 1,700 mm (66.9 in) along a bed that carries two tables. One is a rigid table with a 700 x 500 mm clamping surface. The other is a swivel turntable with a Ø 650 mm (Ø 25.6 in) face plate that tilts -50° to +110° and rotates 360°. MATEC describes 5-axis, pendulum and long bed machining as the uses.

02 How much weight can each table of the FUV170T carry?

The rigid table carries 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). The swivel table is rated for workpieces up to a total weight of 300 kg (661 lb). On the FUV190T the rigid table figure rises to 1,600 kg, while the swivel table stays at 300 kg.

03 What spindle and tooling does the FUV170T use?

A 12,000 rpm motor spindle with 15 kW (20.1 hp), taking HSK63 or SK40 holders. The equipment sheet lists optional HSK63 spindles up to 15,000, 18,000 and 24,000 rpm. The tool magazine holds 48 tools as standard and 60 or 120 as options, with tools up to 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb).

04 How does the FUV170T differ from the FUV190T?

Only in length. The FUV190T has 1,900 mm of X travel, a 900 x 500 mm rigid table rated for 1,600 kg, a machine length of 4,600 mm and a weight of 18,000 kg. The FUV170T has 1,700 mm of X, a 700 x 500 mm rigid table for 1,200 kg, a length of 4,400 mm and a weight of 17,000 kg. Y, Z, spindle and swivel table are the same.
