Overview

The Matec 30PPT | 40PPT combines the two productivity features of MATEC's gantry range: a pallet changer under the gantry and a torque fork head on the ram. The first keeps the spindle cutting while the next part is clamped; the second is the head listed with spindle speeds to 24,000 rpm.

The fork head torque is given a swivel radius of 225 or 280 mm (8.9 or 11.0 in). The A axis covers ±110°. The table prints the C axis as ±360°, where the non-pallet 30PTT | 40PTT is listed with 360°; either way the head can turn through a full circle. Both rotary axes have direct measuring systems.

Pallets are 2,000 - 5,000 mm long and 2,000 - 3,000 mm wide and take 4,000 kg (8,818 lb), depending on table size and drive system. MATEC offers two additional pallet stations as an option and describes multi-shift production with a reduced workforce as the aim. Travels are the family's: 3,750 to 6,750 mm in X, 3,400 or 4,400 mm in Y, 1,500 to 2,100 mm in Z.

Maximum spindle power is 96 kW (128.7 hp) and maximum torque 690 Nm (509 lb-ft). Tools can weigh 20 kg (44 lb) and be 450 mm (17.7 in) long. The X axis can be ordered with a linear drive or toothed rack drive in place of the ball screw, which is worth considering here, since a pallet machine aimed at volume work spends much of its time in rapid moves at the standard 30 m/min (1,181 ipm).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Pallet changer and torque fork head on the same machine
  • Spindle speeds of 10,000, 15,000 or 24,000 rpm
  • Full-circle C axis and ±110° A axis with direct measuring systems
  • X axis optionally with linear drive or toothed rack drive
  • Pallet load of 4,000 kg (8,818 lb)

Limitations

  • A axis is limited to ±110°
  • Pallet width tops out at 3,000 mm (118.1 in) although Y travel reaches 4,400 mm (173.2 in)
  • The second pair of pallet stations is an option, not part of the base machine
  • MATEC's page gives no pallet change time

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What head does the 30PPT | 40PPT use?

A 2-axis fork head torque, listed with a swivel radius of 225 or 280 mm (8.9 or 11.0 in), a C axis of ±360° and an A axis of ±110°. Both axes have direct measuring systems. On the related 30PTT | 40PTT page MATEC describes this head type as having direct drive in both axes.

02 How big are the pallets and what do they carry?

Pallet length is 2,000 - 5,000 mm (78.7 - 196.9 in), pallet width 2,000 - 3,000 mm (78.7 - 118.1 in) and pallet load 4,000 kg (8,818 lb). MATEC adds that the load depends on table size and drive system.

03 Can more pallets be added to the 30PPT | 40PPT?

Yes. MATEC lists two additional pallet stations as an option for the PP series. With workpieces that run long enough, the company says, production over several shifts is possible with a considerably reduced workforce. The page gives no figures for the footprint of the extra stations.

04 What are the spindle and tool limits?

Speeds of 10,000, 15,000 or 24,000 rpm, a maximum of 96 kW (128.7 hp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft), in the HSK63 and HSK100 performance classes. Tool length is 450 mm (17.7 in), tool weight 20 kg (44 lb), and the magazine holds 40 or 48 tools or up to a maximum of 680.
