Overview

The Matec FUV800 is a 5-axis machining centre in gantry design: the spindle travels 800 mm (31.5 in) in X, 920 mm (36.2 in) in Y and 650 mm (25.6 in) in Z above a swivel bridge carried in the machine's side walls. The table has an 800 mm (31.5 in) clamping surface, tilts 120° to either side in A and rotates 360° in C.

MATEC rates the table for workpieces up to a total weight of 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) and gives the largest part as 900 mm in diameter and 550 mm high. For loading, the distance from the door edge to the table centre is at most 720 mm, short enough to reach the middle of the table without a long stretch over the sill. The base is tightly ribbed cast and the column structure is stress-relieved before machining.

The FUV800 is the HSK63 | SK40 version of the pair. Its spindle runs to 12,000 rpm as standard with 14 kW (18.8 hp); 15,000, 18,000 and 20,000 rpm appear in brackets as alternatives. The magazine starts at 32 tools and can be built up to 120, with tools up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). The FUV800 B shares the frame and travels but takes HSK100 or SK50 tools of up to 15 kg and stops at 60 pockets.

Rapid traverse is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm), or 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) in the bracketed version. All axes have direct path measuring systems. The machine weighs 21,000 kg (46,296 lb) and occupies 3,450 x 5,310 mm with a height of 3,600 mm (141.7 in), so the 14 kW spindle is working from a heavy structure, which suits finishing and 5-axis contouring more than heavy stock removal.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Table rated for workpieces up to 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), with parts up to 900 mm in diameter and 550 mm high
  • A axis swivel of -120° to +120° on a bridge supported in both side walls
  • Magazine expandable from 32 to 120 tools in HSK63 | SK40
  • Direct path measuring systems in all axes
  • Loading distance of at most 720 mm from door edge to table centre

Limitations

  • Spindle power is 14 kW (18.8 hp) on a 21,000 kg (46,296 lb) machine, so it is not a heavy roughing spindle
  • Tools are limited to 7 kg (15 lb); heavier tooling needs the FUV800 B
  • Needs a floor area of 3,450 x 5,310 mm and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of height
  • The enclosure is listed without a roof, and through-tool coolant at 30 or 70 bar is an option

Best For

5-axis machining of parts up to 900 mm in diameter and 550 mm high Heavy workpieces up to 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) that still need a tilting table Undercut features that need the full 120° of A axis tilt in either direction Jobs with long tool lists, using the 80 or 120 tool magazine options

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large a workpiece can the Matec FUV800 take?

MATEC gives a maximum workpiece diameter of 900 mm and a height of 550 mm on the 800 mm table, with a total weight of up to 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). Axis travels are 800 x 920 x 650 mm (31.5 x 36.2 x 25.6 in) and the spindle nose is 100 to 750 mm (3.9 to 29.5 in) from the table.

02 What is the difference between the FUV800 and the FUV800 B?

The spindle interface and what follows from it. The FUV800 uses HSK63 or SK40 tooling with 14 kW, tools up to 7 kg and a magazine of 32 to 120 tools. The FUV800 B uses HSK100 or SK50 tooling with 18 | 25 kW, tools up to 15 kg and a magazine of 32 to 60 tools. Travels, table, footprint and the 21,000 kg weight are the same in both columns of MATEC's table.

03 What spindle speeds are available on the FUV800?

12,000 rpm is the standard speed in the table, with 15,000, 18,000 and 20,000 rpm shown in brackets. MATEC's equipment sheet for the series also lists optional HSK63 spindles up to 24,000 rpm. The only power figure given for the FUV800 is 14 kW (18.8 hp), and no torque is stated.

04 Which control does the FUV800 use?

The HEIDENHAIN TNC 640 HSCI is standard, with an HR 510 handwheel and a fully interpolable 5-axis version. SIEMENS ONE is the optional control. Glass scales in the linear axes, direct encoders in the rotation axes and temperature compensation are on the standard equipment list.

05 How fast are the axes of the FUV800?

Rapid traverse is 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) as standard, and the table shows 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) in brackets as the faster version. MATEC's table also has a row for the A and C axis speeds, but prints it in a unit that does not fit a rotary axis, so ask for those figures.
