Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Matec 30PTU | 40PTU that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
A 2-axis universal head with ±180° of rotation in both A and C is what defines the Matec 30PTU | 40PTU. The machine under it is MATEC's stationary gantry with a moving table, offered in the HSK63 and HSK100 performance classes with SIEMENS or HEIDENHAIN control.
The universal head swings on a 440 mm (17.3 in) radius, much longer than the 250 mm of the fork head on the 30PT | 40PT. That reach lets the spindle work in any angular position, which MATEC sums up as universal use for every component and material, but it also takes more room inside the work area, so Z travel and clearance height deserve a close look when sizing the machine. Z is offered at 1,500, 1,800 or 2,100 mm, with 1,350, 1,650 or 2,050 mm of clearance height.
Envelope choices are 3,750, 4,750, 5,750 or 6,750 mm in X and 3,400 or 4,400 mm (133.9 or 173.2 in) in Y, over tables from 2,000 x 2,000 mm upward that carry up to 4,000 kg (8,818 lb). The axes are driven by ball screws at 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), with a linear drive or toothed rack drive as the option.
Spindle speeds of 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 rpm are listed, with up to 96 kW (128.7 hp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft). MATEC says the stationary gantry design allows high-speed machining with surface quality that often needs no rework. The tool magazine starts at 40 or 48 places, tools may be 450 mm (17.7 in) long, and a head magazine for four interchangeable heads is optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Universal head with ±180° in both the A and C axes
- 440 mm (17.3 in) swivel radius for reaching into angled features
- Head axes with direct measuring systems
- Ball screw axis drive as standard, linear drive or toothed rack drive as an option
- Maximum spindle figures of 96 kW (128.7 hp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft)
Limitations
- The 440 mm (17.3 in) swivel radius uses up Z travel when the head is tilted
- Top listed spindle speed is 20,000 rpm; the 30PTT | 40PTT is listed up to 24,000 rpm
- Table load of 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) depends on table size and drive system
- C axis is limited to ±180°, not continuous rotation

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It rotates ±180° in the C axis and ±180° in the A axis on a swivel radius of 440 mm (17.3 in), with direct measuring systems on both axes. MATEC describes the series as covering applications in all angular positions. The fork head of the 30PT | 40PT, by comparison, tilts ±105° in A on a 250 mm radius.
02
X travel is 3,750, 4,750, 5,750 or 6,750 mm. Y travel is 3,400 or 4,400 mm (133.9 or 173.2 in). Z travel is 1,500, 1,800 or 2,100 mm. Clearance under the gantry is 1,350, 1,650 or 2,050 mm high and 2,320 or 3,320 mm wide.
03
The product page states an axis drive with ball screw and a feed and rapid traverse of 30 m/min (1,181 ipm). A linear drive or a toothed rack drive is listed as an option. Maximum table load is 4,000 kg (8,818 lb), which MATEC qualifies as depending on table size and drive system.
04
Performance classes are HSK63 and HSK100. The magazine has 40 or 48 places and can be extended to a maximum of 680. Tool length is 450 mm (17.7 in) and tool weight 10 or 20 kg (22 or 44 lb). An interchangeable head magazine that holds four machining heads and changes them automatically is an option.
