Overview

Six metres of bed is the reason to choose the LVD Puma 6020. Its maximum sheet is 6,160 x 2,035 mm (242.5 x 80.1 in), with 6,280 mm (247.2 in) of X travel over the same 2,070 mm (81.5 in) Y travel as the Puma 4020. The machine suits long parts, or several smaller sheets laid along the table and cut in one program.

Load capacity rises with the length. The table is rated at 2,500 kg (5,511 lb), and that mass has to be shuttled: LVD lists a 48 sec. table changeover, against 39 sec. on the Puma 4020. On long nests the changeover is a small share of the cycle, so the slower exchange costs less than it looks.

Nothing is given away in motion. X-Y positioning speed stays at 140 m/min and the stated accuracy is unchanged at +/- 0.050 mm, with +/- 0.025 mm repeatability, which LVD credits to the welded steel frame it uses on all its flatbed lasers. Holding that over a bed this long is the frame's job; LVD also notes that achievable part accuracy depends on the workpiece and sheet size.

The source list is the usual 3, 6, 12 or 20 kW. If the long bed is wanted for thick plate, the 45 mm (1.8 in) mild steel capacity of the 20 kW source and the 30 mm (1.2 in) of the 12 kW source are the figures to weigh.

The machine is 17,200 mm (677.2 in) long and 6,300 mm (248.0 in) wide, and weighs about 21,500 kg (47,399 lb). The Puma 6525 has the same length with a wider, 2,500 mm sheet and is the only Puma with a bevel head option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 6,160 x 2,035 mm (242.5 x 80.1 in) sheet capacity with 6,280 mm (247.2 in) of X travel
  • 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) table load for long, heavy plate
  • Keeps the range's 140 m/min positioning speed and +/- 0.025 mm repeatability on the longer bed
  • Source options up to 20 kW, listed at 45 mm (1.8 in) in mild steel
  • Shuttle tables and MOVit automation compatibility as on the smaller Puma machines

Limitations

  • Needs a 17,200 mm (677.2 in) long installation space, before light guards, filter and chiller
  • Table changeover is 48 sec., the price of shuttling a table this long
  • Y travel is 2,070 mm; plate wider than 2,035 mm calls for the Puma 6525
  • Bevel cutting is not offered on this size
06

Best For

Long parts and nests up to 6,160 mm Plate loads up to 2,500 kg per table Running several smaller sheets in one program along the bed Thick mild steel with the 12 kW or 20 kW source

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long a sheet can the Puma 6020 cut?

The maximum sheet is 6,160 x 2,035 mm (242.5 x 80.1 in). X travel is 6,280 mm and Y travel 2,070 mm. The table carries up to 2,500 kg (5,511 lb), and Z travel is 130 mm (5.1 in).

02 What separates the Puma 6020 from the Puma 6525?

Width and bevel cutting. Both machines are 17,200 mm long. The Puma 6525 takes a 6,400 x 2,500 mm sheet and 3,600 kg, where the Puma 6020 takes 6,160 x 2,035 mm and 2,500 kg. LVD offers a bevel head on the Puma 6525 only, and the Puma 6020 is lighter than the Puma 6525, at 21,500 kg against 28,000 kg.

03 Is the long bed slower?

Not in axis speed: positioning is 140 m/min in X-Y and 30 m/min in Z, as on every Puma size. The table exchange is slower because the tables are longer and carry more. LVD lists 48 sec. here, compared with 35 sec. for the Puma 3015.

04 What accuracy does LVD state?

+/- 0.050 mm positioning accuracy and +/- 0.025 mm repetitive accuracy, quoted according to VDI/DGQ 3441. LVD adds that the accuracy achieved on a workpiece depends on the type of workpiece, its pre-treatment and the sheet size, which matters more as parts get longer.

05 Can it be automated?

Yes. LVD describes the Puma as automation compatible and lists the MOVit Compact Tower (CT-L), Flexible Automation (FA-L), Tower Automation System (TAS) and Warehouse Automation System (WAS). An automatic nozzle changer, which also inspects and cleans nozzles, is a separate option.
