Price estimate
We do not have a price for the LVD Taurus that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The LVD Taurus is a gantry fiber laser for extra-large plate: a modular bed that starts at 14 m and grows in 4 m steps to 42 m, a straight-cutting width of 3,200 mm (126.0 in) and sources of 12 kW, 20 kW or 30 kW.
Only the gantry is covered. LVD states that the 4-meter-wide gantry protects the area around the cutting head and nozzle changer, which leaves the bed open for loading plate and removing parts. Because the bed is long, parts can be cut on one section while another is unloaded. Three safety scanners guard the gantry's movement, 2D scanners handle collision prevention, and laser safety curtains contain the beam.
Cutting length depends on the bed ordered. In straight cutting LVD lists 13,900 to 41,900 mm of X travel; with the bevel head, 13,500 to 41,500 mm. The bevel head also narrows the Y axis to 2,600 mm (102.4 in) and uses a longer Z stroke, 300 mm (11.8 in) against 200 mm (7.9 in). It is a 2.5D head that cuts bevels up to 50 degrees, offered as an option for weld preparation.
On thickness, the 20 kW and 30 kW sources are listed identically: 50 mm (2.0 in) in mild steel, 40 mm (1.6 in) in stainless steel and aluminium, 15 mm (0.59 in) in copper and brass. The 12 kW source is listed at 30 mm (1.2 in) in the first three. Choosing 30 kW over 20 kW is therefore a decision about speed, which the table does not quantify.
Positioning speed is 100 m/min in X-Y and 50 m/min in Z. Accuracy is stated per metre, +/- 0.050 mm/m for positioning and +/- 0.025 mm/m for repeatability. The installation is 7,100 mm (279.5 in) wide and from 18 up to 46 m long, with a filter unit that stands 4,000 mm (157.5 in) high.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Modular bed from 14 up to 42 m in increments of 4 m, so capacity can match the longest part
- 3,200 mm (126.0 in) straight-cutting width and plate up to 50 mm (2.0 in) thick in mild steel
- Sources of 12 kW, 20 kW or 30 kW
- Open bed with only the gantry covered: cut on one section while offloading another
- Optional 2.5D bevel head for bevels up to 50 degrees, plus an optional 30-position automatic nozzle changer
Limitations
- The 30 kW source is listed at the same thicknesses as 20 kW in every material
- Bevel cutting reduces Y travel from 3,200 mm to 2,600 mm
- Needs a building bay at least 18 m long and 7,100 mm (279.5 in) wide, with 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of height for the filter
- Accuracy is stated per metre (+/- 0.050 mm/m), so tolerance over a long part has to be worked out for the job
- No source below 12 kW is offered

Frequently Asked Questions
01
From 14 up to 42 m, in increments of 4 m. The corresponding X-axis cutting length runs from 13,900 mm to 41,900 mm in straight cutting and from 13,500 mm to 41,500 mm with the bevel head. Overall machine length is modular too, from 18 up to 46 m.
02
Y travel is 3,200 mm (126.0 in) in straight cutting and 2,600 mm (102.4 in) in bevel cutting. Maximum straight-cut thickness with 20 kW or 30 kW is 50 mm in mild steel, 40 mm in stainless steel and aluminium and 15 mm in copper and brass. With 12 kW, mild steel, stainless and aluminium are all listed at 30 mm.
03
Not in the thickness table: LVD lists both at 50 mm of mild steel and 40 mm of stainless steel or aluminium. The maker's table gives no cutting speeds, so the gain from 30 kW in feed rate or edge quality has to be established with LVD or by a test cut.
04
Only the cutting gantry is covered. LVD lists three safety scanners that secure the gantry's movement, 2D scanners for collision prevention and specially designed laser safety curtains that keep laser light inside the cutting zone. A second 19-inch controller sits on the gantry, with a handheld control for jog moves.
05
A 2.5D cutting head that tilts for bevel cuts up to 50 degrees, which LVD positions as a way to reduce weld preparation time. It changes the travels: Z becomes 300 mm (11.8 in) instead of 200 mm (7.9 in), and Y becomes 2,600 mm instead of 3,200 mm.
