Overview
The Litz VH-1600B is the 50-taper version of the VH-1600: a vertical machining center with 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X travel, 900 mm (35.4 in) of Y, 800 mm (31.5 in) of Z and a BBT-50 direct-drive spindle at 8,000 rpm.
Eight thousand rpm is high for a 50-taper spindle. Many machines of this taper stop lower, and the extra range lets the VH-1600B run carbide tooling in steel at proper surface speed and still finish with mid-sized cutters. Litz gives the motor as 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp), continuous and 30 min, the same rating as the BBT-40 VH-1600A. What changes is what the spindle can hold: tools up to 15 kg (33 lb) and 350 mm (13.8 in) long, with diameter listed as 125 / 250 mm (4.9 / 9.8 in).
