Overview

The Litz MV-1600A is the largest BT-40 machine in the MV vertical machining center series. Its table is 1,700 x 800 mm (66.9 x 31.5 in) and holds 1,600 kg (3,527 lb), with travels of 1,600 mm (63.0 in) in X, 800 mm (31.5 in) in Y and 740 mm (29.1 in) in Z.

A 40-taper spindle on a table this size is a deliberate choice. The spindle runs at 8,000 rpm on a 15 / 18.5 kW (20 / 25 HP) motor, and the magazine is the biggest standard one in the series at 30 tools. That suits large, relatively light workpieces with many features: aluminium plates, panels, frames and welded structures that need dozens of drilled and tapped holes plus some pocketing. Litz lists 10,000 rpm and 12,000 rpm spindles as options for exactly that sort of work.

The column and head are built for the travel. Z-axis counterweight with a central guiding system is standard, and all three axis motors are 3.5 kW. Rapids are 20 / 20 / 18 m/min (787 / 787 / 709 ipm) and cutting feed is limited to 8,000 mm/min, so cycle time on this machine comes from time in the cut, not from positioning.

The standard guarding is a worktable half cover; a full enclosure is optional. Seven 18 mm T-slots cross the table. Spindle nose to table distance is 100 to 840 mm (3.9 to 33.1 in). Machine weight is 14,500 kg (31,966 lb) with a 40 kVA supply and a 500 L coolant tank.
