Overview

The Litz DM-1000 is a one-metre vertical machining center for high-speed work: 1,020 mm (40.2 in) of X, 560 mm (22.0 in) of Y, 600 mm (23.6 in) of Z and an 18,000 rpm spindle. The table is 1,000 x 560 mm (39.4 x 22.0 in) with a 750 kg (1,653 lb) rating.

Mould makers are the obvious audience. A 750 kg table takes a mid-sized mould base, the 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) motor is enough to rough it with BBT-40 tooling, and 18,000 rpm keeps surface speed up on small finishing cutters. Dual-contact BBT tooling is worth using here; long finishing tools at high speed are where the extra face contact pays off.

One detail differs from the DV-1000, which uses the same travels and table. Spindle nose to table distance on the DM-1000 is 135 to 735 mm (5.3 to 28.9 in). The Z stroke is unchanged at 600 mm, but the whole range sits higher, so very short tools on low parts need checking.

Axis speeds do not suffer for the size. Rapids are 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm) and cutting feed goes to 20,000 mm/min. The DM-1200A, by comparison, drops to 30 m/min in X and Y. Machine weight is 7,000 kg (15,432 lb), supply is 25 kVA and the coolant tank holds 290 L. Coolant through the spindle and through the ballscrews are both options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 18,000 rpm BBT-40 spindle driven by a 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) motor
  • 1,020 x 560 x 600 mm travels with a 750 kg (1,653 lb) table load
  • 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm) rapids, faster in X and Y than the DM-1200A
  • Tools up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 8 kg (18 lb) in a 24-tool arm changer

Limitations

  • Spindle nose does not come lower than 135 mm (5.3 in) above the table
  • Coolant through the spindle, coolant through the ballscrews and linear scales all cost extra
  • 24 tools is the only magazine size on the standard list
  • Requires 25 kVA and a foundation for 7,000 kg (15,432 lb)
06

Best For

Mid-sized mould bases and die inserts up to 750 kg (1,653 lb) Aluminium plate parts up to one metre long Jobs that mix 40-taper roughing with high-speed finishing

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the main specifications of the Litz DM-1000?

Travels of 1,020 x 560 x 600 mm (40.2 x 22.0 x 23.6 in), a 1,000 x 560 mm (39.4 x 22.0 in) table rated for 750 kg (1,653 lb), an 18,000 rpm BBT-40 spindle with a 15 / 18.5 kW motor, and a 24-tool arm-type changer.

02 How does the DM-1000 differ from the DV-1000?

The spindle. The DV-1000 runs to 10,000 rpm on a 7.5 / 11 kW motor, the DM-1000 to 18,000 rpm on 15 / 18.5 kW. Travels, table size, table load and machine weight are the same. Spindle nose to table distance is 135 to 735 mm on the DM-1000 and 120 to 720 mm on the DV-1000.

03 What cooling features protect accuracy on the DM-1000?

The spindle oil cooler, spindle air seal system and spindle head coolant cooling system are standard. Coolant through the ballscrews on the three axes, a coolant cooling system and linear scales are listed as options for work that runs long at high speed.

04 What are the power and weight figures for the DM-1000?

The machine weighs 7,000 kg (15,432 lb). Litz lists a 25 kVA power requirement, 6 kg/cm² compressed air and a 290 L coolant tank. Axis motors are 2.0 / 2.0 / 3.5 kW for X, Y and Z.
