Overview

The Litz MV-1200B is a 50-taper vertical machining center on a 1,200 mm frame. It has a 6,000 rpm BT-50 spindle with an 11 / 15 kW (15 / 20 HP) motor, travels of 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in X, 560 mm (22.0 in) in Y and 635 mm (25.0 in) in Z, and a table rated for 750 kg (1,653 lb).

Big tools are the point. The changer accepts cutters up to 15 kg (33 lb) and 350 mm (13.8 in) long, and tool diameter is listed as 125 / 225 mm (4.9 / 8.9 in). Those limits allow large face mills, long boring bars and heavy drills that a smaller-taper machine of the same travel cannot hold. The MV-1200A, its BT-40 sibling, stops at 8 kg (18 lb) per tool.

Six thousand rpm sounds slow, but with 50-taper tooling in steel and iron the spindle rarely needs more. Options of 8,000 rpm and 10,000 rpm exist for mixed work, and a ZF gearbox with cooling system is offered when torque at low speed is the priority.

The spindle nose comes down to 60 mm (2.4 in) from the table and rises to 695 mm (27.4 in), a wider range than on the A model. Rapids hold at 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm). Machine weight is 8,500 kg (18,739 lb) with a 25 kVA supply and a 290 L coolant tank. The Mitsubishi M80 is standard.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • BT-50 spindle with an 11 / 15 kW (15 / 20 HP) motor on a 1,200 mm machine
  • Tools up to 15 kg (33 lb) and 350 mm (13.8 in) long
  • Spindle nose to table distance from 60 to 695 mm (2.4 to 27.4 in)
  • ZF gearbox with cooling system, 8,000 rpm and 10,000 rpm spindles are options
  • 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm) rapids despite the heavier spindle

Limitations

  • Standard spindle speed is 6,000 rpm, which limits small-tool work
  • Table load is 750 kg (1,653 lb), no higher than the BT-40 MV-1200A
  • 24 tools as standard; the 32T arm type magazine costs extra
  • Spindle oil cooler is on the option list

Best For

Heavy face milling and boring in steel and cast iron Large-diameter and long tools that need a 50-taper spindle Die blocks and machine parts up to 750 kg (1,653 lb)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What taper and speed does the Litz MV-1200B spindle have?

It is a BT-50 spindle with a standard speed of 6,000 rpm and a motor rated 11 / 15 kW (15 / 20 HP), continuous and 30 min. Litz lists 8,000 rpm and 10,000 rpm spindles, a spindle oil cooler, coolant through the spindle and a ZF gearbox with cooling system as options.

02 What size tools can the MV-1200B changer handle?

The 24-tool arm changer takes tools up to 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 15 kg (33 lb). Maximum tool diameter is listed as 125 / 225 mm (4.9 / 8.9 in). A 32T arm type magazine is optional.

03 Should I choose the MV-1200B or the MV-1200A?

Choose by tooling. The MV-1200B is BT-50 at 6,000 rpm with 11 / 15 kW; the MV-1200A is BT-40 at 8,000 rpm with 7.5 / 11 kW. Table size and the 750 kg (1,653 lb) load are shared, so the B is for heavier cutters and the A for lighter, faster ones.

04 What are the travels of the MV-1200B?

X is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), Y is 560 mm (22.0 in) and Z is 635 mm (25.0 in). The table is 1,200 x 560 mm (47.2 x 22.0 in) with five 18 mm T-slots. The machine weighs 8,500 kg (18,739 lb).
