Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Komo VGM that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Komo VGM is the one machine in Komo's current list built for steel as well as aluminum. It is a moving gantry machining center with a CAT 40 spindle and a 144 in x 72 in (3,658 mm x 1,829 mm) table. Komo says it was developed for customers who need a heavy-duty machine capable of cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Everything about the spindle separates it from Komo's routers. It is belt driven, rated 34.8 hp (26 kW), and runs up to 6,000 rpm. The Mach III, for comparison, has an 18 hp (13.2 kW) HSK 63F spindle that runs up to 24,000 rpm. Low speed with a belt reduction is the arrangement for torque, which is what face mills and drills in steel ask for. Tools can be 10.5 in (266 mm) long.
The 1206 travels 151 in (3,835 mm) in X, 75.25 in (1,911 mm) in Y and 24 in (610 mm) in Z, and the axes traverse at 2,000 ipm (50.8 m/min), 2,000 ipm (50.8 m/min) and 730 ipm (18.7 m/min). That is a large plate envelope with far more daylight than a router offers. The table is precision machined aluminum (2 in), and a t-slot fixture plate table or a steel table with T slots is optional.
The option list is a metalworking one: mist, flood and coolant-thru-spindle; dual chip augers with chip guards at the front and back of the table; an Integrated Measuring System on X, Y and Z; a contact or non-contact tool setter with breakage detection; and a touch probe for part measurement. Komo's page gives different magazine capacities in different places, so the tool count is not in the table here and should be confirmed.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- CAT 40 belt-driven spindle rated 34.8 hp (26 kW) for ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- 144 in x 72 in (3,658 mm x 1,829 mm) table with 151 in (3,835 mm) x 75.25 in (1,911 mm) of travel
- 24 in (610 mm) of Z travel and tools up to 10.5 in (266 mm) long
- Coolant options of mist, flood and coolant-thru-spindle, with dual chip augers
- Optional Integrated Measuring System on X, Y and Z, tool setter and part probe
Limitations
- Spindle speed is limited to 6,000 rpm, which restricts small-tool work in aluminum
- Each tool may weigh no more than 12 lbs, light for 40-taper face mills
- Komo's page states several different tool magazine capacities, so that figure must be confirmed
- No positioning accuracy or table load is published
- Coolant, chip augers, scales and probing are all options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Komo calls the VGM Series CNC machining centers, developed for customers who need a heavy-duty machine capable of cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It has a moving gantry like a router, but a CAT 40 belt-driven spindle that runs up to 6,000 rpm, and a metalworking option list.
02
The standard spindle is belt driven, rated 34.8 hp (26 kW), with a CAT 40 taper and a programmable speed of up to 6,000 rpm. Tools may be up to 3.25 in (82 mm) in diameter with all positions full, 6.5 in (165 mm) with adjacent positions empty, and up to 10.5 in (266 mm) long.
03
The 1206 has a 144 in x 72 in (3,658 mm x 1,829 mm) table and travels of 151 in (3,835 mm) x 75.25 in (1,911 mm) x 24 in (610 mm). The standard table is precision machined aluminum (2 in), and Komo lists an optional t-slot fixture plate table.
04
Komo lists mist, flood and coolant-thru-spindle as coolant options, and says multiple coolant options are available. Chip removal uses dual augers, with chip guards around the front and back of the table. These appear in the option list, so check what the quoted configuration includes.
05
Komo's own page is not consistent on this. The feature list describes a 15 position automatic tool changer with up to three additional 15 position changers, and the introduction gives a total capacity of 60 tools, while the technical data block prints other figures. Ask Komo for the capacity of the machine as quoted.
