How much does the Johnford SV-41 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Johnford SV-41 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Johnford SV-41 is the 1,050 mm (41.3 in) X-travel model of the SV series, a 40-taper vertical machining center with a 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in) table. Y and Z are both 610 mm (24 in). In the SV range it sits between the SV-33, which has 850 mm (33.5 in) of X, and the SV-48, which moves to a larger casting with 710 mm (28 in) of Y.
Is the SV-41 just a longer SV-33? In most rows, yes. Spindle, rapids of 30 / 30 / 20 m/min (1,181 / 1,181 / 787 ipm), tool changer and the 1,200 kg (2,640 lb) table load are common to both. The differences are the added X travel and table length, a machine weight of 7,000 kg (15,400 lb), and a machine length of 2,990 mm where the SV-33 is 2,680 mm long. Depth and height do not change, so the larger model costs floor space in one direction only.
The standard spindle runs 60~10,000 rpm in BT/CAT-40 with a 9 / 11 kW (12.1 / 14.8 hp) P motor. Buyers cutting mostly steel can take the 12,000 rpm cartridge spindle with a 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) Hi-Lo gear drive instead. Those cutting aluminium or finishing molds have a 15,000 rpm direct drive BBT-40 spindle and a built-in HSK A63 spindle at 15,000, 18,000 or 20,000 rpm to choose from.
Control is Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS with a 10.4 in LCD and Manual Guide i for the basic machine. Siemens SINUMERIK 828D, Fanuc 31i-MB PLUS and Siemens SINUMERIK ONE are listed as options, and Johnford notes that Fagor or Mitsubishi controllers are also available.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,050 mm (41.3 in) X travel with the full 610 mm (24 in) of Y, on a 1,200 x 600 mm (47.2 x 23.6 in) table
- Wide control choice: Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS standard, Siemens, Fagor or Mitsubishi available
- Table load of 1,200 kg (2,640 lb)
- Chip flushing coolant on the table sides and four screw type chip conveyors with trolley are standard
- Arm type tool changers with 24, 32, 40 or 60 tools can replace the armless magazine
Limitations
- Table load does not increase over the shorter SV-33
- Maximum tool weight is 10 kg (22 lb) and maximum tool length 320 mm (12.6 in)
- The standard 9 / 11 kW (12.1 / 14.8 hp) drive has no gearbox; the Hi-Lo gear comes only with the optional 12,000 rpm spindle
- Linear scales on X, Y or Z are an option
