Overview
The Johnford ST-80BX opens Johnford's large-sized ST series, the frame with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of swing over the bed and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) over the cross slide. This first model has 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Z travel and the A2-11 spindle.
Cross travel sets this frame apart as much as swing does. X travel is 520 mm (20.5 in), against 420 mm (16.5 in) on the ST-80BH and 370 mm (14.6 in) on the ST-80B. The outside dimensions grow as well, to 2,715 mm (106.9 in) in width and 3,200 mm (126 in) in height, on the same 7,412 mm (291.8 in) length.
The headstock is modest by comparison. A 381 mm (15 in) chuck, or 450 mm (17.7 in) as an option, sits in the middle of a metre of clearance, and the motor is 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) unless the 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) option is taken. That fits parts held on fixtures or large special jaws and cut lightly at up to 2,000 rpm, not solid blanks of full diameter.
The tailstock travels 1,700 mm (66.9 in) with a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) MT#7 quill. Weight is 15,200 kg (33,440 lb), only a little above the two smaller frames.
