Overview

The Johnford ST-80BH is the two-metre B-spindle lathe on Johnford's higher long-bed frame. It swings 1,000 mm (39.4 in) over the bed and 800 mm (31.5 in) over the cross slide, with 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Z travel.

Set beside the ST-80B, the differences are few and specific. The ST-80B swings 920 mm (36.2 in) and 700 mm (27.6 in) and has 370 mm (14.6 in) of X travel; the ST-80BH has 420 mm (16.5 in). The machine is 2,955 mm (116.3 in) high. Weight goes from 15,000 kg (33,000 lb) on the ST-80B to 15,100 kg (33,220 lb). Length, width, rapids, axis motors and tailstock are the same.

So the H version is the pick whenever any regular part comes close to the smaller swing. It costs almost nothing in mass or floor space.

The spindle is the A2-11 unit with a 381 mm (15 in) chuck, a 132.5 mm (5.2 in) bore, four automatic speeds and 2,000 rpm, at 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) or optionally 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp). The tailstock travels 1,700 mm (66.9 in) with a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) MT#7 quill. Rapid traverse is 10 m/min on X and 12 m/min on Z.
