How much does the Hwacheon MEGA-T130 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon MEGA-T130 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon MEGA-T130 is a short-bed, large-swing lathe: Ø1,300 mm (Ø51.18 in) over the bed and Ø900 mm (Ø35.43 in) over the cross slide, but only 1,100 mm (43.31 in) of Z travel. Where the MEGA+ machines are built for long shafts, this one is proportioned for wide, short work such as flanges, wheels, rings and discs.
The bed is the giveaway. It is 900 mm (35.43 in) wide, wider than the 810 mm of the MEGA+140, yet only 3,720 mm (146.46 in) long, and X travel of 670 mm (26.38 in) reaches across the full face of a large part. The whole machine fits in 4,250 x 2,960 x 2,240 mm (167.32 x 116.54 x 88.19 in) and weighs 7,550 kg (16,645 lb).
The spindle is offered with the same three bores as the long-bed MEGA lathes, Ø155, Ø255 or Ø320 mm (Ø6.1 / Ø10.0 / Ø12.6 in), on A2-15 or (for the largest bore) A2-20 noses, but every version is limited to 5 to 400 rpm through a three-step automatic gearbox. Power is modest for the swing: 23 / 18.5 kW (30.8 / 24.8 hp) with the standard SIEMENS 828D, or 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) with the optional FANUC 0i-TF Plus. On a Ø1,300 mm (Ø51.18 in) part, 400 rpm is ample surface speed, so the power figure is the one that limits how hard the machine can rough.
Tools go in a manual 4-way square tool post with four faces for □32 mm shanks. Rapids are 4 m/min (157.48 ipm) on both axes and cutting feed reaches 3,000 mm/min (118.11 ipm). The table lists no chuck or tailstock, so both need to be specified with the order. The supply is 42 kVA (TR 45 kVA), at 380 V, 60 Hz for SIEMENS or 220 V, 60 Hz for FANUC, and the coolant tank is small at 93 L (25 gal).

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Large-diameter, short parts. It swings Ø1,300 mm (Ø51.18 in) over the bed and Ø900 mm (Ø35.43 in) over the cross slide, but Z travel is only 1,100 mm (43.31 in). Flanges, wheels and discs fit it well; long shafts belong on the MEGA+ machines.
02
The MEGA+140 swings more, Ø1,400 mm (Ø55.12 in), and offers 3,000 to 10,000 mm of centre distance, with up to 750 rpm and 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) under FANUC. The bed of the MEGA+140 is 810 mm (31.8 in) wide. The MEGA-T130 is far shorter and lighter, at 7,550 kg (16,645 lb) against 15,500 kg (34,171 lb) for the shortest MEGA+140.
03
The SIEMENS 828D is the standard control, with 23 / 18.5 kW (30.8 / 24.8 hp) and a 380 V, 60 Hz supply. A FANUC 0i-TF Plus can be fitted instead, with 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) and a 220 V, 60 Hz supply. Both need 42 kVA (TR 45 kVA).
04
From 5 to 400 rpm, whichever bore is chosen (Ø155, Ø255 or Ø320 mm), through three automatic ranges. At large diameters that gives plenty of surface speed, but finishing small diameters at high surface speed is not what it is built for.
