Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Johnford DMC-2600S that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Half a metre more X than the entry model is the whole story of the Johnford DMC-2600S, and for many shops it is the right half metre. X travel is 2,600 mm (102.4 in) over a 2,700 x 1,500 mm (106.2 x 59 in) table. Y stays at 1,778 mm (70 in) and Z at 800 mm (31.5 in), as on every machine of the DMC-S frame.
Johnford's lineup has no 2,600 mm model on the narrower 1,300 mm frame; the step there goes from the DMC-2100 straight to the DMC-3100. So this size exists only with the wide table. It weighs 24,400 kg (53,745 lb), against 22,800 kg (50,220 lb) for the DMC-2100S, and it is 7,661 mm (301.6 in) long.
The spindle is the 40-taper unit: BT-40 / CAT-40 on a 70 mm (2.8 in) bearing, 8,000 rpm with a 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) Hi Lo Gear drive. An 18.5 / 23 kW (24.8 / 30.8 hp) built-in spindle is the alternative, and with HSK A63 it can be had at 15,000, 18,000 or 20,000 rpm. A buyer who wants those speeds on the S frame should stop here, because from the DMC-3100S upward the specification table lists only 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 rpm.
Ten tonnes on the table sounds generous. Spread over 2,700 x 1,500 mm it still means checking the weight of thick steel blocks before quoting a job, since the rating of 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) is the same one the shorter DMC-2100S carries.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of X with 1,778 mm (70 in) of Y, a size the narrower DMC frame does not offer
- Last S-frame model whose table lists the 15,000, 18,000 and 20,000 rpm spindle options
- 2,700 x 1,500 mm (106.2 x 59 in) table rated 10,000 kg (22,000 lb)
- Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS with Manual Guide i, rigid tapping and a spindle and gearbox oil cooler are standard
Limitations
- Base spindle power is 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp); heavier cutting calls for the DMC-2600SH
- Tool weight limit of 10 kg (22 lb) and tool length limit of 320 mm (12.6 in)
- Cutting feed stops at 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm) and rapids at 12 m/min (472 ipm) on all axes

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table measures 2,700 x 1,500 mm (106.2 x 59 in) and is rated for 10,000 kg (22,000 lb). X travel of 2,600 mm (102.4 in) and Y travel of 1,778 mm (70 in) cover almost all of it.
02
The DMC-3100S is the next length, with 3,100 mm (122 in) of X on a 3,200 x 1,500 mm (126 x 59 in) table and weighs 26,000 kg (57,270 lb). Its spindle speed row lists 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 rpm, without the 15,000 to 20,000 rpm figures printed for the DMC-2600S.
03
7,661 x 4,600 x 3,883 mm (301.6 x 181.1 x 152.9 in), length by width by height, at a weight of 24,400 kg (53,745 lb). Foundation planning should allow for the three chip conveyors and their trolley that come as standard accessories.
04
An arm type changer with 24 tools is standard, with bi-directional random selection by the shortest path. 32 and 40-tool versions are in the table as options and the accessory list goes up to a 60-tool ATC.
