Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Johnford DMC-4100SH that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Johnford DMC-4100SH is a four-metre double column machining center with a No.50 geared spindle: 4,100 mm (161.4 in) in X, 1,778 mm (70 in) in Y, 800 mm (31.5 in) in Z. Johnford's narrower DMC frame offers a 4,100 mm machine only with the 40-taper spindle, the DMC-4100, so this is the smallest frame on which that length can be bought with BT-50 / CAT-50.
Mass is on its side. The machine weighs 37,500 kg (82,500 lb), and the spindle runs on a 90 mm (3.5 in) bearing behind a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) motor and a Hi Lo Gear. With 6,000 rpm as the standard speed, the cutting it is laid out for is slow and heavy: slab milling of long bars, facing of weldments, boring with tools up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long.
Where does it run out? Width and load. Between columns there is 1,796 mm (70.7 in), and the table is rated 10,000 kg (22,000 lb). The DMC-4100PH answers both, with 2,400 mm (94.4 in) between columns and 13,000 kg (28,600 lb), at a weight of 42,200 kg (92,840 lb). A buyer with one wide or heavy part family should price both.
Chips from a 50-taper roughing cut on a four-metre table are a handling job of their own. Two screw type conveyors and a chain type conveyor with trolley are standard, and a scraper type conveyor with magnetic separator is on the options list.
