How much does the Hartford HSA-316 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HSA-316 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Ten tonnes on a 3,000 x 1,400 mm (118.1 x 55.1 in) table: the Hartford HSA-316 is a three-metre double-column machining center with linear guideways and a choice of #40 or #50 spindle. X travel is 3,250 mm (128.0 in). The load rating is 10,000 kg (22,046 lb).
X travel exceeds the table length here, which is not the case on Hartford's larger HSA models, where the two are equal. The spare stroke lets the spindle reach the end faces of a full-length part with an angle head, or run a face mill clear off both ends.
Y travel is 1,600 mm as standard and 1,500 mm with the optional box-guideway Z axis; Z is 780 mm (30.7 in). The spindle programme is the same as on the HSA-216. For #40 it is a DDS spindle at 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 rpm, driven by 7.5 / 11 kW or optionally 15 / 18.5 kW. For #50 it is a DDS spindle at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm or a gear head at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm, driven by 15 / 18.5 kW, 18.5 / 22 kW or 22 / 26 kW.
Hartford gives the Z axis a nitrogen counterweight, which it says lowers hydraulic oil temperature by 50% and saves more than 20% energy, and drives all three axes with direct-coupled servo motors to cut transmission backlash by more than 30%.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) table load
- X travel of 3,250 mm (128.0 in), longer than the 3,000 mm table
- #40 spindle to 20,000 rpm or #50 gear head at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm
- Nitrogen-counterweighted Z axis
- Direct-drive servo motors on three axes, with over 30% less backlash per Hartford
Limitations
- Z travel fixed at 780 mm (30.7 in)
- Table width of 1,400 mm limits wide parts
- The 60-tool magazine is listed for #50 only
- The box-guideway Z option reduces Y travel to 1,500 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X 3,250 mm (128.0 in), Y 1,600 mm standard or 1,500 mm with the box-guideway Z option, Z 780 mm (30.7 in). The table is 3,000 x 1,400 mm (118.1 x 55.1 in).
02
The average table load is 10,000 kg (22,046 lb). The narrower HSA-3212, by comparison, is rated for 4,500 kg (9,921 lb).
03
A nitrogen counterweight. Hartford states that the design reduces the operating noise of the hydraulic tank, reduces the oil temperature by 50% and saves energy by more than 20%.
