Overview

The Hwacheon VESTA-1100 is a BT-40 vertical machining center with 1,100 x 600 x 600 mm (43.3 x 23.6 x 23.6 in) of X, Y and Z travel on a 1,300 x 600 mm (51.2 x 23.6 in) table. It is built in two versions, STD and PRO, and the choice between them changes three rows of the table at once: spindle speed, rapid traverse and table load.

The STD machine runs a 10,000 or 12,000 rpm spindle, rapids at 36 / 36 / 36 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 1,417 ipm) and carries 1,000 kg (2,205 lb). The PRO raises the spindle to 15,000 rpm and X and Y rapids to 42 m/min (1,654 ipm), with Z unchanged at 36 m/min (1,417 ipm), but its table rating falls to 800 kg (1,764 lb). Through-spindle coolant is marked as an option against the PRO spindle. For die and mould steel with heavy fixtures the STD rating is the safer one; for aluminium and short-cycle parts the PRO's speed counts for more.

Every spindle version is rated 18.5 / 11 kW (24.8 / 14.8 hp). The spindle nose comes down to 80 mm (3.1 in) from the table and rises to 680 mm (26.8 in), so short tools on thin plate stay within reach without riser blocks, and the 673 mm (26.5 in) from column to spindle center leaves room for wide fixtures across Y.

The 30-tool magazine uses memory random selection and takes BT-40 shanks as standard, with CAT-40 and SK-40 as options. Tools may be Ø75 mm (Ø3.0 in) with neighbours loaded or Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) with the adjacent pockets empty, 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 8 kg (18 lb). At 5,900 kg (13,007 lb) on a 3,520 x 2,530 mm (138.6 x 99.6 in) floor space, it needs 30 kVA and air at 0.5 ~ 0.7 MPa x 690 NL/min.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • STD and PRO versions on one frame: 10,000 / 12,000 rpm with 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) table load, or 15,000 rpm with 42 / 42 / 36 m/min (1,654 / 1,654 / 1,417 ipm) rapids
  • Spindle nose reaches 80 mm (3.1 in) from the table at the bottom of the Z stroke, so thin work and short tools need no risers
  • 1,300 x 600 mm (51.2 x 23.6 in) table with five 18 mm T-slots at 80 mm pitch
  • Tools up to Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) when the adjacent pockets are left empty
  • Modest installation needs for its size: 30 kVA, 5,900 kg (13,007 lb) and a 3,520 x 2,530 mm (138.6 x 99.6 in) floor space

Limitations

  • The PRO version's table rating drops to 800 kg (1,764 lb), against 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) on the STD
  • Spindle rating is 18.5 / 11 kW (24.8 / 14.8 hp) on every version, and there is no BT-50 option for heavy face milling
  • The magazine holds 30 tools and the table lists no larger option
  • With neighbouring pockets loaded, tools are limited to Ø75 mm (Ø3.0 in) and 8 kg (18 lb)

Best For

Plate and fixture work within a 1,300 x 600 mm (51.2 x 23.6 in) table Aluminium parts on the 15,000 rpm PRO spindle Steel parts and heavier fixtures up to 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) on the STD version Thin workpieces machined with short tools close to the table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the VESTA-1100 STD and PRO?

The STD has a 10,000 or 12,000 rpm spindle, 36 / 36 / 36 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 1,417 ipm) rapids and a 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) table rating. The PRO has a 15,000 rpm spindle, 42 / 42 / 36 m/min (1,654 / 1,654 / 1,417 ipm) rapids and an 800 kg (1,764 lb) table rating. Travels, table size and the 18.5 / 11 kW (24.8 / 14.8 hp) spindle rating are the same on both.

02 How does the VESTA-1100 compare with the VESTA-1050B?

The VESTA-1050B has a smaller 1,150 x 600 mm (45.3 x 23.6 in) table and slower spindles, 8,000 rpm in BT-40 or 6,000 rpm in BT-50, rated 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), and weighs 6,970 kg (15,366 lb) in BT-40 form. The VESTA-1100 trades the BT-50 option for 10,000 to 15,000 rpm spindles and a 1,300 x 600 mm (51.2 x 23.6 in) table.

03 What tool sizes does the VESTA-1100 magazine accept?

It holds 30 tools with memory random selection. Each tool can be up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 8 kg (18 lb). Diameter is Ø75 mm (Ø3.0 in) with tools in the neighbouring pockets and Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) with those pockets empty. BT-40 is standard, with CAT-40 and SK-40 shanks as options and a MAS P40T-1 (45˚) pull stud.

04 What does the VESTA-1100 need for installation?

A 30 kVA electrical supply, air at 0.5 ~ 0.7 MPa x 690 NL/min, a floor space of 3,520 x 2,530 mm (138.6 x 99.6 in) and 2,953 mm (116.3 in) of height. The machine weighs 5,900 kg (13,007 lb). The coolant tank holds 430 L (114 US gal), with a 730 L (193 US gal) tank as an option.
