Huron VX 8 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron VX 8 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron VX 8 is the entry model of the VX range of C-frame vertical machining centres: 820 x 510 x 510 mm (32.3 x 20.1 x 20.1 in) of travel, a 1,000 x 530 mm table and a 10,000 rpm ISO 40 spindle. It weighs 6,000 kg (13,228 lb), heavy for this envelope, and Huron attributes that to a ribbed cast-iron frame with a broad base and a reinforced column.

Every VX model shares one spindle and one tool changer. The spindle gives 14.3 kW and 68 Nm with a characteristic speed of 2,000 rpm. The magazine has 40 housings for tools up to 80 mm in diameter, 250 mm long and 7 kg. What separates the VX 8 from its larger siblings is the table rating. It takes 500 kg (1,102 lb), where the VX 11 takes 1,200 kg on a 1,200 x 630 mm table.

Axes move at 24 m/min. Huron states 0.010 mm positioning and 0.003 mm repeatability on X, Y and Z, and the repeatability figure is the one that matters for repeat setups in tooling work.

One point to check before ordering is depth. With doors open and chip conveyor the VX 8 is 4,390 mm wide and 4,300 mm deep, deeper than the VX 11 at 2,750 mm, so the conveyor arrangement differs between the two.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 6,000 kg (13,228 lb) of machine for an 820 x 510 x 510 mm envelope, built on a ribbed cast-iron C-frame
  • 40 tool housings as standard on the smallest VX
  • Repeatability of 0.003 mm on X, Y and Z
  • Table of 1,000 x 530 mm is longer than the 820 mm X travel, leaving clamping room at both ends

Limitations

  • Table load is 500 kg (1,102 lb), less than half the 1,200 kg of the VX 11
  • Installed depth of 4,300 mm with conveyor is more than the VX 11 needs at 2,750 mm
  • 68 Nm of spindle torque limits the size of face mills and drills in steel
06

Best For

Tooling inserts, electrodes and small mould components Small to medium batches of parts within 820 x 510 x 510 mm Jobs that need many tools on a small machine Work where 0.003 mm repeatability between setups matters

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size parts fit the Huron VX 8?

Travels are 820 mm in X and 510 mm in both Y and Z. The table is 1,000 x 530 mm and is rated for 500 kg (1,102 lb). Parts or fixtures heavier than that need the VX 11 or VX 12, which carry 1,200 kg.

02 What spindle is fitted to the VX 8?

An ISO 40 spindle with a maximum of 10,000 rpm, 14.3 kW of power and 68 Nm of torque. The characteristic speed is 2,000 rpm. It is the same spindle Huron lists for every VX model, so moving up the range adds travel and table capacity, not cutting power.

03 How many tools does the VX 8 carry?

The automatic tool changer has 40 housings. Maximum tool diameter is 80 mm, maximum length 250 mm and maximum weight 7 kg (15 lb). Forty pockets on an 820 mm machine means several jobs can stay tooled up at once.

04 How much floor space does the VX 8 take?

Huron's overall measurements with doors opened and conveyor are 4,390 mm wide, 4,300 mm deep and 2,900 mm high. The machine weighs 6,000 kg (13,228 lb). The 2,900 mm height is the lowest of the VX range.
