Huron PX 40 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron PX 40 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron PX 40 is a compact C-frame vertical machining centre with 760 x 510 x 510 mm (29.9 x 20.1 x 20.1 in) of travel, an ISO 40 spindle that runs to 10,000 rpm and a 20-tool changer. Huron describes it as a milling centre dedicated to productivity and suited to series production lines, and the figures fit that description: short travels, quick axes and a small footprint.

Rapids are 40 m/min on X and Y and 32 m/min on Z. The table measures 915 x 460 mm and carries 500 kg (1,102 lb), so the work is small fixtures and vises rather than plates or mould bases. Huron builds the machine with a fixed bed, a cross-travel table and a sliding saddle that carries the spindle.

The spindle rating depends on the drive package. Huron's table gives 8.3 / 5.5 kW and 53 / 35 Nm for the Siemens version, with a characteristic speed of 1,500 rpm, and 7.5 / 5.5 kW and 48 / 26 Nm for the Fanuc version at 2,000 rpm. Either way this is a light spindle. It suits drilling, tapping and finishing cuts with small tools far better than heavy face milling in steel.

Tools can be 80 mm in diameter with every pocket full, or 125 mm with neighbours empty, up to 250 mm long and 7 kg. With doors open and the chip conveyor fitted the machine needs 3,200 x 3,620 mm of floor and weighs 4,300 kg (9,480 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Rapids of 40 m/min on X and Y and 32 m/min on Z keep non-cutting time short on parts with many features
  • Small installation: 3,200 x 3,620 mm with doors open and chip conveyor, and 4,300 kg (9,480 lb)
  • Spindle ratings are published for both a Siemens and a Fanuc drive package, so the choice of control family is open
  • Positioning of 0.010 mm and repeatability of 0.005 mm on X, Y and Z

Limitations

  • Spindle power is 8.3 / 5.5 kW (Siemens) or 7.5 / 5.5 kW (Fanuc), which rules out heavy roughing
  • The magazine holds 20 tools, the smallest count among Huron's vertical machines
  • Table load stops at 500 kg (1,102 lb) on a 915 x 460 mm table
  • Torque peaks at 53 / 35 Nm on the Siemens version and 48 / 26 Nm on the Fanuc version

Best For

Series production of small prismatic parts within 760 x 510 x 510 mm Drilling, tapping and light milling at up to 10,000 rpm Cells and lines where a 3,200 x 3,620 mm footprint matters Shops that want to choose between Siemens and Fanuc drive packages

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels and table size of the Huron PX 40?

X, Y and Z travels are 760, 510 and 510 mm (29.9, 20.1 and 20.1 in). The table is 915 x 460 mm (36.0 x 18.1 in) with an admissible load of 500 kg (1,102 lb). The table is wider than the X travel, which leaves room to clamp at the ends.

02 How powerful is the PX 40 spindle?

It is an ISO 40 spindle with a top speed of 10,000 rpm. Huron lists 8.3 / 5.5 kW and 53 / 35 Nm for the Siemens version and 7.5 / 5.5 kW and 48 / 26 Nm for the Fanuc version. The characteristic speed is 1,500 rpm with Siemens and 2,000 rpm with Fanuc. Plan cuts around small cutters and modest depths.

03 How many tools does the PX 40 hold and how big can they be?

The automatic tool changer has 20 housings. A tool can be up to 80 mm in diameter with adjacent pockets occupied, and Huron's second figure of 125 mm applies to an oversize tool. Maximum tool length is 250 mm and maximum tool weight is 7 kg (15 lb).

04 How much space does the PX 40 need?

Huron gives overall measurements with the doors opened and the chip conveyor in place: 3,200 mm wide, 3,620 mm deep and 2,810 mm high. The machine weighs 4,300 kg (9,480 lb), light enough for most workshop floors, but check the height against door and crane clearances.
