Huron VX 13 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron VX 13 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron VX 13 is the first VX model to open up the Y and Z axes. It travels 1,300 x 700 x 700 mm (51.2 x 27.6 x 27.6 in), against 600 and 610 mm of Y and Z on the VX 11 and VX 12, and its table measures 1,500 x 700 mm.

That extra cross travel changes what fits. A 700 mm Y axis covers square mould bases that the VX 12, with 600 mm of Y, would have to machine in two setups, and 700 mm of Z gives clearance for deep cavities and long tools. The cost is speed. Rapid traverse is 20 m/min on all axes, where the VX 12 reaches 24 m/min.

Table capacity does not follow the envelope. Huron rates the VX 13 at 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), the same as the VX 11, and tool length remains limited to 250 mm, which is short of what a 700 mm Z stroke could otherwise use. The spindle is the range standard: ISO 40, 10,000 rpm, 14.3 kW, 68 Nm, characteristic speed 2,000 rpm. Forty tools sit in the changer.

At 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) the machine is a moderate step up in mass. It installs in 5,230 x 3,168 mm with doors open and conveyor, and stands 3,470 mm high.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 700 mm of travel in both Y and Z, against 600 mm and 610 mm on the VX 12
  • 1,500 x 700 mm table suits square mould bases and plates
  • Depth of 3,168 mm with conveyor is less than the VX 12 needs
  • Keeps the 40-housing tool changer and 0.003 mm repeatability of the range

Limitations

  • Rapids drop to 20 m/min from the 24 m/min of the VX 8, VX 11 and VX 12
  • Table load is still 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) despite the bigger table
  • Maximum tool length of 250 mm does not make full use of the 700 mm Z travel
  • Overall height of 3,470 mm needs checking against the workshop ceiling and crane

Best For

Mould bases and cavity plates up to 1,300 x 700 mm Parts that need more Y travel than the VX 12 offers Deep-pocket work that benefits from 700 mm of Z clearance Tooling shops stepping up from a smaller C-frame machine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why choose the VX 13 over the VX 12?

For Y and Z travel. The VX 13 offers 700 mm on both, where the VX 12 has 600 mm of Y and 610 mm of Z. X grows only from 1,220 mm on the VX 12 to 1,300 mm. The trade is rapid traverse, which is 20 m/min on the VX 13 and 24 m/min on the VX 12.

02 What is the table capacity of the Huron VX 13?

The table is 1,500 x 700 mm (59.1 x 27.6 in) with an admissible load of 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). If the job is heavier, the VX 15 carries 2,000 kg, but it is a much larger machine at 16,000 kg.

03 What spindle and tool changer does the VX 13 use?

The spindle is an ISO 40 unit with 10,000 rpm, 14.3 kW and 68 Nm, and a characteristic speed of 2,000 rpm. The automatic tool changer has 40 housings and takes tools up to 80 mm in diameter, 250 mm long and 7 kg.

04 How large is the VX 13 on the shop floor?

Overall measurements with doors opened and conveyor are 5,230 mm in width, 3,168 mm in depth and 3,470 mm in height. Weight is 9,000 kg (19,841 lb), against 8,500 kg for the VX 12.
