Overview

The Huron KX 30 is the large machine of the three-axis KX portal line, with 1,800 x 1,000 x 700 mm (70.9 x 39.4 x 27.6 in) of travel and a 2,000 x 1,000 mm table that takes 4,000 kg (8,818 lb). It carries the name Huron gave to its first portal-structured machine.

Compared with the K2X models it is a different kind of tool. Rapids are 30 m/min on X and Y and 18 m/min on Z, half what the K2X 20 manages or less. In exchange the buyer gets 700 mm of Z travel, twice the table load of the K2X 20 and a 17,000 kg (37,479 lb) structure. This is the machine in the line for big die blocks, where the mass of the part governs the feed more than the drives do.

The spindle does not change. It is the HSK 63-A unit at 18,000 rpm, 30 kW and 110 Nm, with a characteristic speed of 3,400 rpm. On a 4,000 kg workpiece that spindle is a finishing and semi-finishing tool. Heavy roughing with large inserted cutters is outside what 110 Nm supports.

Huron gives positioning as 0.009 mm on X and 0.007 mm on Y and Z, with 0.005 mm repeatability throughout. The installation measures 5,770 mm wide by 6,420 mm deep and 3,430 mm high.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) table load on a 2,000 x 1,000 mm table
  • 700 mm of Z travel, against 500 mm on the K2X 20
  • 17,000 kg (37,479 lb) ribbed cast-iron portal structure
  • 18,000 rpm HSK 63-A spindle for finishing large 3D surfaces
  • Repeatability of 0.005 mm on all three axes

Limitations

  • Rapids of 30 m/min on X and Y and 18 m/min on Z are far below the K2X 20
  • 110 Nm of spindle torque is light for workpieces of up to 4,000 kg
  • X positioning is stated as 0.009 mm
  • Installation depth is 6,420 mm with doors open and conveyor

Best For

Large mould and die blocks up to 4,000 kg Finishing of 3D shapes on bumper, dashboard or appliance-size tooling Forging dies needing 700 mm of Z Shops that want HSK 63-A high-speed finishing on heavy parts

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the main specifications of the Huron KX 30?

Travels are 1,800 x 1,000 x 700 mm. The table is 2,000 x 1,000 mm with a 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) admissible load. The spindle is HSK 63-A at 18,000 rpm with 30 kW and 110 Nm, and the tool changer holds 36 tools.

02 Is the KX 30 as fast as the K2X machines?

No. Its rapid feedrate is 30 m/min on X and Y and 18 m/min on Z. The K2X 20 is listed at 50 m/min on X and 60 m/min on Y and Z. The KX 30 is built for larger, heavier workpieces.

03 What accuracy does Huron quote for the KX 30?

Positioning is 0.009 mm on X and 0.007 mm on Y and Z. Repeatability is 0.005 mm on all three axes. The X figure is the loosest because X is the longest axis at 1,800 mm.

04 How large is the KX 30 installation?

With doors opened and conveyor the machine is 5,770 mm wide, 6,420 mm deep and 3,430 mm high, and it weighs 17,000 kg (37,479 lb). Huron specifies floor anchoring, so the foundation needs planning before delivery.
