Huron VX 12 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron VX 12 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Take the VX 11, lengthen the X axis, and you have the Huron VX 12. Travels are 1,220 x 600 x 610 mm (48.0 x 23.6 x 24.0 in) and the table grows to 1,400 x 630 mm. Nothing else in the cutting specification changes, which makes the choice between the two a question of part length alone.

The table still carries 1,200 kg (2,646 lb). Spread over a longer surface that is a lower load per unit of table, so a long, heavy die shoe should be checked against the rating instead of assumed to fit. Machine weight rises only slightly, to 8,500 kg (18,739 lb).

Huron fits the same ISO 40 spindle: 10,000 rpm, 14.3 kW, 68 Nm and a characteristic speed of 2,000 rpm. The 40-housing changer accepts tools up to 80 mm in diameter, 250 mm long and 7 kg. Rapid traverse is 24 m/min in X, Y and Z, and the stated accuracy is 0.010 mm positioning with 0.003 mm repeatability.

Installation is where the VX 12 departs from its shorter sibling. Width is identical at 5,070 mm, but depth with conveyor is 3,610 mm, and height is 3,210 mm.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,220 mm of X travel and a 1,400 x 630 mm table without giving up the 24 m/min rapids of the smaller VX models
  • Same 5,070 mm installed width as the VX 11 despite the longer table
  • 40 tool housings and 0.003 mm repeatability, as on the rest of the range
  • 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) table rating covers long fixtures with several vises

Limitations

  • Table load does not rise with table length: it stays at 1,200 kg
  • Y and Z stay at 600 and 610 mm, so only longer parts benefit, not taller or wider ones
  • Depth with conveyor is 3,610 mm, well over the 2,750 mm of the VX 11
  • 14.3 kW and 68 Nm is modest for a table this size
06

Best For

Long, narrow parts such as rails, plates and die shoes Multi-vise setups along a 1,400 mm table Tooling manufacture, the application Huron names for the VX Shops outgrowing the X travel of the VX 11 but not needing more Y

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Huron VX 12?

X travel is 1,220 mm (48.0 in), Y travel 600 mm (23.6 in) and Z travel 610 mm (24.0 in). The table measures 1,400 x 630 mm, so it is longer than the X travel and leaves room for clamping at the ends.

02 Is the VX 12 more powerful than the VX 11?

No. Both use the ISO 40 spindle rated 14.3 kW and 68 Nm at up to 10,000 rpm. The VX 12 differs from the VX 11 in X travel, table length, installed depth and a machine weight of 8,500 kg against 8,300 kg.

03 How heavy a workpiece can the VX 12 carry?

The admissible table load is 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), including fixtures. For heavier work the next step in the range is the VX 15, which Huron rates at 2,000 kg on a 1,700 x 810 mm table.

04 What are the installation dimensions of the VX 12?

With doors opened and conveyor the machine is 5,070 mm wide, 3,610 mm deep and 3,210 mm high. It weighs 8,500 kg (18,739 lb). Allow extra room at the conveyor discharge for a swarf bin.
