Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron Tachyon 4 FT that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Huron Tachyon 4 FT is a compact drilling and tapping centre with a fixed table: 400 x 400 x 450 mm (15.7 x 15.7 x 17.7 in) of travel, a 24,000 rpm BBT 30 spindle and rapids of 60 m/min on all three axes. FT stands for fixed table, the version Huron describes as offering the maximum machining volume in the Tachyon family.
All three linear axes are on the tool side. The bed is fixed, and a traverse, saddle and spindle carriage move over a stationary table of 600 x 400 mm. Because the workpiece never moves, the 400 kg (882 lb) table load has no effect on axis dynamics, and fixtures with hydraulic or pneumatic lines stay put.
Huron publishes two spindle ratings. The Siemens version gives 20 kW and 21 Nm with a characteristic speed of 9,000 rpm. The Fanuc version gives 6 kW and 7.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm. That is a large gap, and it changes what the machine can do in milling, so the drive package deserves attention at quotation.
The footprint is small, 1,510 mm wide by 2,900 mm deep with doors open and conveyor, on a machine weighing 3,550 kg (7,826 lb). The changer holds 24 tools up to 80 mm in diameter, 200 mm long and 3 kg.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 24,000 rpm BBT 30 spindle and 60 m/min rapids on X, Y and Z
- Only 1,510 mm wide, so machines can stand close together in a line
- Fixed 600 x 400 mm table rated for 400 kg (882 lb); the workpiece does not move
- Siemens version rated 20 kW and 21 Nm
- Positioning of 0.006 mm and repeatability of 0.004 mm
Limitations
- The Fanuc version is rated 6 kW and 7.3 Nm, far below the Siemens rating
- X travel is 400 mm; the Tachyon 5 FT offers 550 mm
- Tools are limited to 3 kg and 200 mm in length
- 30-taper tooling restricts cutter size and depth of cut

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Fixed table. Huron offers the Tachyon with a fixed table (FT), a rotating pallet arrangement (R) or a two-axis rotary table (Five). The FT version has a single 600 x 400 mm table rated for 400 kg and, in Huron's words, the maximum machining volume.
02
Top speed is 24,000 rpm on a BBT 30 taper. With the Siemens package the spindle is rated 20 kW and 21 Nm, with a characteristic speed of 9,000 rpm. With the Fanuc package it is rated 6 kW and 7.3 Nm, with a characteristic speed of 8,000 rpm.
03
With doors opened and conveyor the machine is 1,510 mm wide, 2,900 mm deep and 2,540 mm high. It weighs 3,550 kg (7,826 lb). The narrow width is the point of the design: Huron lists reduced footprint first among the features.
04
X travel. The Tachyon 5 FT has 550 mm of X where the Tachyon 4 FT has 400 mm. Table, Y, Z, spindle and tool changer are the same. The Tachyon 5 FT is 1,610 mm wide and weighs 3,700 kg.
