Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron Tachyon 5 R that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Huron Tachyon 5 R is a drilling-tapping centre with a built-in rotating pallet: two tables of 600 x 400 mm on a divider that swaps them between the loading side and the spindle. Travels are 550 x 400 x 450 mm (21.7 x 15.7 x 17.7 in), and the spindle is a BBT 30 unit at 24,000 rpm.
R stands for Rotopallet. Huron describes it as an integrated divided table with rapid rotation to reduce workpiece changing time, suited to mass production of complex parts. The operator, or a robot, unloads and reloads one table while the other is being machined. On parts with cycle times of a minute or two, that removes most of the spindle idle time a fixed table would have.
Each table takes 250 kg (551 lb). That is less than the 400 kg of the fixed-table Tachyon 5 FT, and the fixture counts against it. The enclosure is also bigger: 2,210 mm wide and 4,357 mm deep with doors open and conveyor, on a 4,500 kg (9,921 lb) machine.
Axis and spindle data match the FT. Rapids are 60 m/min, positioning 0.006 mm, repeatability 0.004 mm. The spindle is rated 20 kW and 21 Nm in the Siemens version or 6 kW and 7.3 Nm in the Fanuc version, and 24 tools ride in the changer.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two 600 x 400 mm tables on a rotating divider, so loading happens during the cut
- Workpiece change by table rotation, built into the machine and not added as a cell
- 60 m/min rapids and a 24,000 rpm spindle
- Full 550 x 400 x 450 mm travels retained in the pallet version
Limitations
- 250 kg (551 lb) per table, against 400 kg on the Tachyon 5 FT
- Depth grows to 4,357 mm and width to 2,210 mm
- Fixtures must be duplicated, one per table
- Tools limited to 80 mm diameter, 200 mm length and 3 kg

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The machine has an integrated divided table carrying two work tables of 600 x 400 mm. It rotates quickly to bring a freshly loaded table under the spindle and the finished one out to the operator. Huron lists it as a way to reduce the workpiece changing time.
02
250 kg (551 lb) per table, fixture included. The larger Tachyon 7 R raises that to 300 kg per table on tables of 800 x 400 mm.
03
The Tachyon 5 R measures 2,210 mm wide, 4,357 mm deep and 2,620 mm high with doors opened and conveyor, and weighs 4,500 kg. The Tachyon 5 FT is 1,610 mm wide and 3,060 mm deep and weighs 3,700 kg.
04
A BBT 30 spindle with a 24,000 rpm maximum. The rating is 20 kW and 21 Nm with the Siemens package, characteristic speed 9,000 rpm, or 6 kW and 7.3 Nm with the Fanuc package, characteristic speed 8,000 rpm.
