Huron VX 18 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron VX 18 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron VX 18 tops the VX range with 1,810 mm (71.3 in) of X travel on a 2,000 x 810 mm table. Y and Z are 810 mm each, and the table is rated for 2,500 kg (5,512 lb), the highest load Huron lists for a C-frame machine in this family.

In practice it is a stretched VX 15. The two share cross travel, tool limits and nearly the same mass: the VX 18 weighs 16,500 kg (36,376 lb). A buyer deciding between them is comparing the VX 15, with 1,510 mm of X, a 2,000 kg table rating and an installed width of 6,467 mm, against 1,810 mm, 2,500 kg and 6,680 mm here. Depth is 4,582 mm and height 4,000 mm.

Long X travel on a C-frame puts the table ends a long way from the column centreline. Huron addresses stiffness in general terms, citing ribbed cast iron, a broad base and a reinforced column, and states 0.010 mm positioning and 0.003 mm repeatability for X, Y and Z. Those are the same figures given for the 820 mm VX 8.

The spindle is unchanged from the rest of the range: ISO 40, 10,000 rpm, 14.3 kW, 68 Nm. Tools up to 76 mm in diameter and 300 mm long fit the 40-pocket changer. Rapids are 20 m/min.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,810 mm (71.3 in) of X travel, the longest of the VX range
  • 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) admissible load on a 2,000 x 810 mm table
  • Stated positioning of 0.010 mm and repeatability of 0.003 mm are held over the full 1,810 mm axis
  • Installed width of 6,680 mm, against 6,467 mm for the VX 15

Limitations

  • 14.3 kW and 68 Nm is a small spindle for a 2,500 kg workpiece
  • 20 m/min rapids over 1,810 mm make long positioning moves slow
  • Tools are limited to 76 mm in diameter and 7 kg
  • Takes 6,680 x 4,582 mm of floor with doors open and conveyor

Best For

Long die shoes, bolsters and machine plates up to 2,000 x 810 mm Workpieces and fixtures up to 2,500 kg Several parts set up along one long table Tooling work that needs C-frame access to a large table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the Huron VX 18 work envelope?

X travel is 1,810 mm (71.3 in), with 810 mm (31.9 in) in both Y and Z. The table is 2,000 x 810 mm and carries up to 2,500 kg (5,512 lb).

02 Should I choose the VX 18 or the VX 15?

The VX 15 stops at 1,510 mm of X and 2,000 kg on the table. The VX 18 gives 1,810 mm and 2,500 kg. Both have the same Y and Z, spindle and 40-tool changer, and the VX 15 weighs 16,000 kg against 16,500 kg for this machine. Choose on part length and load.

03 What is the spindle specification of the VX 18?

It is an ISO 40 spindle running to 10,000 rpm with 14.3 kW and 68 Nm, and a characteristic speed of 2,000 rpm. On a machine this size that spindle is best used for finishing and medium cuts with tools up to 76 mm in diameter.

04 What does the VX 18 weigh and how much room does it need?

Machine weight is 16,500 kg (36,376 lb). With doors opened and conveyor it measures 6,680 mm wide, 4,582 mm deep and 4,000 mm high. Check floor loading and crane height before delivery.
