Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer MB-10Q that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer MB-10Q is a toolroom bed mill with a manual quill head: 32 x 17 x 19 in (813 x 432 x 483 mm) of travel, a 14 x 50 in (356 x 1,270 mm) table and a 10 hp (7.5 kW) peak CAT 40 spindle. It is the smallest of the three MB-Q models and the one closest in size to the manual mill it is meant to stand beside or replace.
What makes it a toolroom machine is the way it can be run. Fryer fits manual handles on X and Y and a 6 in (152 mm) manual quill, and describes three ways of working: manual, semi-CNC and full CNC. A machinist can crank a quick facing cut by hand, run a single "Do One" cycle for a pocket or a bolt circle, or load a G-code program from a CAM system. Axis unlock is listed as standard, so X and Y stay locked in manual mode until they are needed.
There is no tool changer in the table. Tools are changed by hand, with a power drawbar and a 9 tool rack on the options sheet, and that sets the kind of work: one-offs, repairs and small batches rather than unattended runs.
The spindle has a 2 speed gear box. Low range covers 10-500 rpm and delivers 238 ft-lb (323 Nm), which is a great deal of torque for a 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) machine and suits large drills, taps and boring heads. High range runs 100-4,500 rpm at 40 ft-lb (54 Nm). The head swivels +/- 90°, and the table carries 2,000 lb (907 kg).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Runs in manual, semi-CNC or full CNC mode, with manual handles on X and Y and a 6 in (152 mm) manual quill
- 238 ft-lb (323 Nm) of spindle torque in low gear from a 10 hp (7.5 kW) peak motor
- Head swivels +/- 90° for angled drilling and milling
- Table takes 2,000 lb (907 kg) on a machine weighing 5,000 lb (2,268 kg)
- Axis unlock for manual work is a standard feature of the MB-Q series
Limitations
- No automatic tool changer is listed; tools are changed by hand
- Spindle speed tops out at 4,500 rpm in high range
- Rapid traverse is 400 ipm (10.2 m/min) and cutting feed is limited to 300 ipm (7.6 m/min)
- Y travel of 17 in (432 mm) and a spindle 17.5 in (445 mm) from the column limit the depth of a part
- A full machine guard is an option, so the base machine is not enclosed

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Yes. Fryer equips the MB-Q series with manual handles for the X and Y axes and a 6 in (152 mm) manual quill, and describes manual, semi-CNC and full-CNC modes. In manual mode the axis unlock feature keeps X and Y locked until the operator toggles them free.
02
X, Y and Z travels are 32 x 17 x 19 in (813 x 432 x 483 mm). The table is 14 x 50 in (356 x 1,270 mm) with 3 T-slots 0.630 in (16 mm) wide and a load rating of 2,000 lb (907 kg). Spindle nose to table ranges from 25.5 to 6.5 in (648 - 165 mm).
03
Fryer's specification table for the MB-Q series has no tool changer rows. The options sheet lists a Powerlock power drawbar and a 9 tool rack that mounts over the X way cover and holds 40 taper tool holders, so tool changes are done by the operator.
