Huron Kmill 8 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron Kmill 8 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron Kmill 8 is a small three-axis portal machining centre: 700 x 600 x 500 mm (27.6 x 23.6 x 19.7 in) of travel under a bridge, with an 800 x 600 mm table and a 15,000 rpm ISO 40 spindle. Portal construction at this size is unusual. Most machines with 700 mm of X are C-frames, and Huron's choice of a bridge keeps the spindle supported on both sides across the whole Y stroke.

Huron places the Kmill in its KX family, which it describes as machines for 3D shapes in moulds, forgings and tooling, from roughing to finishing. The structure is ribbed cast iron, anchored to the floor to hold geometry over time. At 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) the Kmill 8 carries a lot of iron for its envelope.

The spindle is rated 23.6 kW and 110 Nm, with a characteristic speed of 2,680 rpm. That combination gives real torque for roughing with 40-taper tooling and enough speed for ball-nose finishing. Feedrates are 40 m/min on all three axes.

The table load is the limiting figure. It is 500 kg (1,102 lb), so this is a machine for inserts, electrodes and small cavity blocks. Thirty tools fit the magazine, at 80 mm diameter when pockets are contiguous and 120 mm when they are not.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Portal structure in ribbed cast iron on a machine with only 700 mm of X travel
  • 15,000 rpm ISO 40 spindle with 23.6 kW and 110 Nm
  • Feedrates of 40 m/min on X, Y and Z
  • 600 mm of Y travel on an 800 x 600 mm table, close to a square working area

Limitations

  • Table load is limited to 500 kg (1,102 lb)
  • Tool length is capped at 250 mm and tool weight at 7 kg
  • Needs floor anchoring, and 5,240 x 3,030 mm of space with doors open and conveyor
  • Stated positioning is 0.010 mm, coarser than the 0.004 mm of the K2X 10

Best For

Mould inserts, electrodes and small cavity blocks up to 500 kg Roughing and finishing 3D shapes in one setup Small forging dies and tooling components Shops that want portal stiffness in a compact envelope

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the working envelope of the Huron Kmill 8?

Linear travels are 700 mm in X, 600 mm in Y and 500 mm in Z. The table measures 800 x 600 mm (31.5 x 23.6 in) and its admissible load is 500 kg (1,102 lb), fixtures included.

02 How does the Kmill 8 compare with the Kmill 10?

The Kmill 10 is the larger machine, with 1,000 x 700 x 600 mm travels and a 1,250 x 700 mm table rated for 1,500 kg. The Kmill 10 is slower, though: its feedrates are 30 m/min on X and Y and 18 m/min on Z, where the Kmill 8 moves at 40 m/min on every axis. Both use the same 15,000 rpm spindle.

03 What spindle does the Kmill 8 use?

An ISO 40 spindle with a top speed of 15,000 rpm, 23.6 kW of power and 110 Nm of torque. Huron gives the characteristic speed as 2,680 rpm. The table lists this single spindle for the model.

04 What are the tool magazine limits on the Kmill 8?

The magazine has 30 housings. Tool diameter may be 80 mm when neighbouring pockets are occupied and 120 mm when they are left empty. Maximum tool length is 250 mm and maximum weight 7 kg (15 lb).
