Overview

Narrow and long, the Huron KXG 45-14 is the gantry for parts like wing ribs, spars and rail-vehicle profiles. It travels 4,500 mm (177.2 in) in X but only 1,400 mm in Y, over a fixed table of 4,700 x 1,390 mm that holds 18,000 kg (39,683 lb).

A slim gantry has less crossrail to move, and this is the lightest KXG at 60,000 kg (132,276 lb). The linear rapids are the series standard, 60 m/min on X and Y and 45 m/min on Z. Z travel is 800 mm.

The five-axis head is a forked design with B swivelling +/- 105° and C rotating +/- 200° at 100 rpm. The spindle it carries is built for speed: 75 kW, 75 Nm, 20,000 rpm, with a characteristic speed of 9,550 rpm on an HSK 63-A taper. Long aluminium parts cut from plate at high feed are the natural work, and Huron describes the series as designed for continuous five-axis machining of very large parts.

Stated positioning is 0.025 mm on X and 0.010 mm on Y and Z. The magazine holds 40 tools outside the work area. Huron also lists a tilting, inclined operator panel and a retractable roof. The machine occupies 9,082 x 9,700 mm and is 4,978 mm high.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Huron KXG 45-14?

4,500 mm in X, 1,400 mm in Y and 800 mm in Z. The fixed table is 4,700 x 1,390 mm (185.0 x 54.7 in) with an admissible load of 18,000 kg.

02 How does the KXG 45-14 differ from the KXG 45-23?

Width. The KXG 45-23 has 2,300 mm of Y travel and a 4,700 x 2,480 mm table rated for 21,000 kg, and it weighs 80,000 kg. The KXG 45-14 has 1,400 mm of Y, a 1,390 mm wide table, and weighs 60,000 kg. X, Z, head and spindle are the same.

03 What spindle is fitted?

An HSK 63-A spindle with 75 kW, 75 Nm and a 20,000 rpm maximum. The characteristic speed is 9,550 rpm. The same spindle is listed for every KXG model.

04 What are the head axis figures?

The forked head swivels B through +/- 105° and rotates C through +/- 200°. Both axes turn at 100 rpm, and Huron quotes 4,000 Nm for motor and clamping torque.
