Overview

The Huron MX 8 M is the milling version of the smallest universal-head MX machine. It has 1,160 x 1,000 x 900 mm (45.7 x 39.4 x 35.4 in) of travel, a rotary table rated for 2,000 kg (4,409 lb), and a 14,000 rpm HSK 63-A spindle with 277 Nm of torque.

Five-axis motion is split between head and table. The universal head sits on a 45° plane and tilts from -45° to +180° at 100 rpm, driven by an integrated torque motor. The table supplies the C axis at 50 rpm. The head can set the spindle vertical or horizontal, so five sides of a part can be reached in one clamping.

Huron's table size for the M version reads Ø 1,000 x 800 mm. The spindle is rated 29 kW with a characteristic speed of 1,000 rpm, so the full 277 Nm is available for roughing in steel and hard alloys, and Huron lists vibration monitoring that protects machine, tool and workpiece.

Sixty tools are stored, each up to 120 mm in diameter, 400 mm long and 8 kg. Rapids are 40 m/min. Without a pallet changer the machine is 6,300 mm wide and 8,547 mm deep, and with the optional APC the depth becomes 10,151 mm.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 277 Nm of spindle torque at a characteristic speed of 1,000 rpm, with 14,000 rpm on top
  • Universal head with integrated torque motor, tilting from -45° to +180°
  • 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) table load
  • 60-tool changer for tools up to 400 mm long
  • Vibration monitoring listed among the head and spindle features

Limitations

  • Tool weight is limited to 8 kg on the HSK 63-A spindle
  • C axis turns at 50 rpm, so the M version cannot turn parts
  • Depth grows from 8,547 mm to 10,151 mm when the optional APC is added
  • Spindle power is 29 kW, against 43 kW on the MX 8 MT

Best For

Five-side and five-axis milling of parts up to 2,000 kg Hard-material machining with a torque spindle Mould, die and aerospace components around one metre in size Automated production with the optional pallet changer

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the Huron MX 8 M and the MX 8 MT?

The MX 8 M is the milling centre: HSK 63-A spindle at 14,000 rpm with 29 kW and 277 Nm, and a table that rotates at 50 rpm. The MX 8 MT is the mill-turn centre: HSK 100-A spindle at 10,000 rpm with 43 kW and 415 Nm, and a table of 800 mm diameter that spins at 500 rpm for turning.

02 How does the universal head work?

The head is mounted on a 45° plane and carries the A axis. It tilts from -45° to +180° at 100 rpm, driven by an integrated torque motor. That lets the spindle work vertically, horizontally or at any angle between.

03 What are the travels of the MX 8 M?

1,160 mm in X, 1,000 mm in Y and 900 mm in Z, with 40 m/min rapids. The table is listed as Ø 1,000 x 800 mm and takes 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

04 How much space does the MX 8 M need?

Without APC the machine is 6,300 mm wide, 8,547 mm deep and 3,922 mm high with doors opened and conveyor. With the optional APC Huron lists 6,368 mm, 10,151 mm and 3,920 mm.
