Overview

The Huron MX 16 M is a large five-axis milling centre: 2,300 x 2,300 x 1,250 mm (90.6 x 90.6 x 49.2 in) of travel and a 1,750 mm table that takes 10,000 kg (22,046 lb). From this size up, Huron fits the HSK 100-A spindle to the milling version as well as the mill-turn one.

So the M and MT are closer here than lower in the range. Both have 43 kW, 415 Nm and 10,000 rpm, and both take tools up to 30 kg and 650 mm long. They differ at the table. The MX 16 M carries twice the load of the MX 16 MT and its C axis turns at 9 rpm, a speed for indexing and slow contouring of very heavy parts.

The universal head tilts from -45° to +180° at 100 rpm. On a machine with 1,250 mm of Z and 2,300 mm of Y, that head reaches around a large casting or weldment to machine five sides, including deep side features with long tools.

Rapid feedrate is 40 m/min, unusual for axes of this length. Positioning is stated at 0.007 mm and repeatability at 0.004 mm on X, Y and Z. The installation without APC is 8,370 mm wide, 10,000 mm deep and 6,650 mm high. Sixty tools are carried, with a 120 mm diameter limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels and table load of the Huron MX 16 M?

2,300 mm in X, 2,300 mm in Y and 1,250 mm in Z. The table is 1,750 mm in diameter and carries 10,000 kg (22,046 lb).

02 How does the MX 16 M differ from the MX 16 MT?

At the table. The MX 16 M has a 1,750 mm milling table for 10,000 kg at 9 rpm. The MX 16 MT has a 1,650 mm milling/turning table for 5,000 kg at 250 rpm. Travels, spindle and tool changer are the same.

03 Which spindle does the MX 16 M use?

HSK 100-A with a 10,000 rpm maximum, 43 kW and 415 Nm. The characteristic speed is 1,000 rpm. Smaller MX milling versions such as the MX 12 M use HSK 63-A at 14,000 rpm instead.

04 How large is the MX 16 M installation?

Without APC it measures 8,370 mm wide, 10,000 mm deep and 6,650 mm high. With APC Huron lists 8,411 mm, 10,020 mm and 6,631 mm.
