Overview

The Huron KXG 30-15 is a five-axis gantry milling centre with 3,000 x 1,500 x 1,250 mm (118.1 x 59.1 x 49.2 in) of travel. In a gantry the crossrail moves over a table fixed to the foundation, so the table can carry 13,000 kg (28,660 lb) without that mass ever being accelerated.

Among the five KXG models this one has the shortest X but the tallest Z. Its 1,250 mm vertical stroke compares with 800 mm on the KXG 45-14 and the larger machines, which makes the 30-15 the choice for deep moulds, tall models and bulky parts rather than long flat ones.

Speed is the series theme. X and Y rapid at 60 m/min and Z at 45 m/min, and Huron lists machining with very high feed speeds as a design aim. The forked head swivels B +/- 105° and rotates C +/- 200° at 100 rpm with 4,000 Nm. In it sits an HSK 63-A spindle with 75 kW, 75 Nm and 20,000 rpm, a high-speed spindle for light alloys, resins and finishing passes.

Huron builds the gantry with a reinforced U-type moving crossrail and requires a dedicated foundation. A retractable roof opens the work area for crane loading, and the 40-tool magazine sits outside it. The machine weighs 80,000 kg (176,368 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,250 mm of Z travel, the tallest in the KXG range
  • 60 m/min rapids on X and Y with a fixed table
  • 13,000 kg (28,660 lb) table load that does not affect axis dynamics
  • 75 kW, 20,000 rpm spindle in a five-axis forked head
  • Retractable roof for crane access to the work area

Limitations

  • Spindle torque is 75 Nm, too little for heavy steel roughing
  • X positioning is stated as 0.025 mm
  • Requires a dedicated foundation
  • 80,000 kg machine weight and an 8,110 x 10,500 mm installation
06

Best For

Deep moulds and tall models in aluminium or resin Five-axis finishing of large 3D shapes Aerospace tooling and structural parts Heavy workpieces that should stay stationary during machining

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What do the numbers in KXG 30-15 mean?

Huron does not spell it out, but they track the travels: this model has 3,000 mm of X and 1,500 mm of Y. Z travel is 1,250 mm and the fixed table measures 3,000 x 1,500 mm.

02 How fast is the Huron KXG 30-15?

Rapid feedrate is 60 m/min on X and Y and 45 m/min on Z. The head axes B and C turn at 100 rpm, and the spindle reaches 20,000 rpm.

03 What accuracy does Huron state for the KXG 30-15?

Positioning is 0.025 mm on X, 0.010 mm on Y and Z, and 10 sec on B and C. Repeatability is 0.005 mm on the linear axes and 5 sec on the rotary axes.

04 What does the KXG 30-15 need on site?

A dedicated foundation, which Huron lists as part of the design for improved dynamics, and space for 8,110 mm of width, 10,500 mm of depth and 5,750 mm of height. The machine weighs 80,000 kg (176,368 lb).
