How much does the Fehlmann VERSA 945 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fehlmann VERSA 945 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fehlmann VERSA 945 is the largest machine in the VERSA family: a 5-axis portal machining center for workpieces up to Ø 650 mm and 460 mm high, with 650 mm (25.6 in) of X, 800 mm (31.5 in) of Y and 500 mm (19.7 in) of Z travel.
Size shows in the installation data. The machine weighs 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) and measures 2.70 / 2.97 / 3.55 m in width, depth and height. The table-to-spindle-nose distance runs from 150 to 650 mm, so the lowest spindle position is 150 mm above the table: a short tool on a flat part needs the part raised on a fixture to be reached.
The rotary tilting table is driven by torque motors and integrated along the X axis. A covers 255° (+120° / -135°) and C rotates endlessly. For accuracy Fehlmann points to active cooling and electronic thermal compensation, together with a gray cast iron base on a three-point support and a swivel bridge with counter-bearing.
Four spindles are listed, all at S6 (40% ED): 50 - 14,000 rpm and 50 - 18,000 rpm with 26.3 kW (35.3 hp), 50 - 24,000 rpm with 25 kW (33.5 hp) and 50 - 30,000 rpm with 13.7 kW (18.4 hp). The chain magazine starts at 48 tools and can be upgraded to 80. With the optional grinding package, which includes protection against abrasive material, grinding cycles with pendulum stroke and a cooled dressing spindle, the machine also does coordinate and contour grinding. The control is a Heidenhain TNC7.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Largest 5-axis envelope in the VERSA family: workpieces up to Ø 650 mm and 460 mm high
- 650 x 800 x 500 mm travels with a feed rate / rapid feed row up to 50,000 mm/min (1,969 ipm)
- Spindles with 26.3 kW (35.3 hp) at 50 - 14,000 rpm or 50 - 18,000 rpm for steel, titanium and hardened material
- Optional grinding package for coordinate and contour grinding, with pendulum-stroke cycles and a cooled dressing spindle
- 48-tool chain magazine upgradable to 80 tools
- Active cooling and electronic thermal compensation, as described by Fehlmann
Limitations
- Weighs 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) and stands 3.55 m high, which rules out low bays and light floors
- Minimum table-to-spindle-nose distance is 150 mm, so low parts have to be raised for short tools
- The grinding package, through-spindle high-pressure coolant and measuring systems are options
- The specification gives no torque, spindle taper or table load figure

Frequently Asked Questions
01
In 5 axes, up to 650 mm in diameter and 460 mm in height. The linear travels are 650 mm in X, 800 mm in Y and 500 mm in Z. Note the table-to-spindle-nose distance of 150 to 650 mm when planning tool lengths and fixture heights for low parts.
02
Yes, with an option. Fehlmann states that, equipped with the optional grinding package, the VERSA 945 can be used for coordinate and contour grinding. The package includes special protection for abrasive materials, integrated grinding cycles with pendulum stroke and a cooled dressing spindle.
03
According to Fehlmann, the VERSA line can be used, depending on configuration, for titanium, steel, hardened steel, carbide and aluminum alloys for the aerospace industry. Solutions are also offered for copper, plastics and dusty, abrasive materials such as graphite or ceramics. The spindle versions with 26.3 kW (35.3 hp) are the ones for the tougher metals.
04
The VERSA 943 keeps the 650 x 800 x 500 mm travels but replaces the rotary tilting table with a fixed clamping surface of 870 x 760 mm rated for 1,000 kg. The VERSA 943 weighs 11,800 kg against 12,000 kg here. If the parts never need tilting, the fixed table gives more clamping area.
05
Both standardized and customized solutions. Fehlmann names pallet handling, raw material and parts handling, and combined concepts of pallet and workpiece automation. The automatic loading door is on the right side of the machine, so a system can be connected there while the front remains open for the operator.
