Huron MX 8 MT — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron MX 8 MT that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Milling and turning in one clamping is the purpose of the Huron MX 8 MT. Its table is 800 mm in diameter and spins at up to 500 rpm, fast enough to turn diameters and faces on a part that is then milled, drilled and tapped without being moved.

MT stands for mill-turn. Against the milling-only MX 8 M, Huron changes the spindle as well as the table. The MT has an HSK 100-A spindle rated 43 kW and 415 Nm at up to 10,000 rpm, where the MX 8 M has HSK 63-A. The bigger taper holds turning tools rigidly and allows heavier cutters: tools may be 250 mm in diameter, 500 mm long and 25 kg.

Travels are 1,160 x 1,000 x 900 mm (45.7 x 39.4 x 35.4 in) and rapids 40 m/min. The universal head tilts from -45° to +180° on its 45° plane, so a turning tool can be presented from above or from the side, and milling can follow at any angle.

The table carries 2,000 kg (4,409 lb). When turning, remember that the admissible load and the top table speed are separate limits, and Huron's table does not say what speed applies at full load. Positioning is 0.007 mm on the linear axes and 10 sec on A and C. Sixty tools are stored.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Turning table of 800 mm diameter at up to 500 rpm
  • HSK 100-A spindle with 43 kW and 415 Nm
  • Tools up to 250 mm in diameter and 25 kg
  • Milling and turning in a single setup
  • Universal head reaches from -45° to +180°

Limitations

  • Spindle speed tops out at 10,000 rpm, below the 14,000 rpm of the MX 8 M
  • Table diameter is 800 mm, smaller than the milling table of the MX 8 M
  • No figure is published for table speed under full 2,000 kg load
  • With APC the installation is 10,151 mm deep

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Can the Huron MX 8 MT really turn?

Yes. Its table is listed as a mill/turn table of 800 mm diameter with a rotating speed of 500 rpm. Huron describes the MX as enabling five-axis, five-side machining in one clamping as well as turning operations.

02 What spindle does the MX 8 MT use?

An HSK 100-A spindle with a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm, 43 kW and 415 Nm. The characteristic speed is 1,000 rpm.

03 What tools can the MX 8 MT changer carry?

Sixty housings. Maximum tool diameter is 250 mm, maximum length 500 mm and maximum weight 25 kg (55 lb). The MX 8 M, with its smaller taper, is limited to 120 mm, 400 mm and 8 kg.

04 What accuracy is stated for the MX 8 MT?

0.007 mm positioning and 0.004 mm repeatability on X, Y and Z, and 10 sec and 5 sec on A and C. The figures are the same for the M and MT versions.
