Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron GU8 Five that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Huron GU8 Five is the largest GU model, a moving-gantry five-axis machining centre whose 800 mm rotary table carries 1,000 kg (2,205 lb). Linear travels are 1,000 x 1,100 x 650 mm (39.4 x 43.3 x 25.6 in).
A tonne on a swivelling table is the headline. It opens the GU concept to engine and gearbox housings, large impellers, landing-gear fittings and mid-size mould work. The A axis still swings through ±120°, at 25 rpm, and the C axis is directly driven at 75 rpm.
Accuracy relaxes a little with size. Huron states 0.008 mm positioning and 0.004 mm repeatability, compared with 0.006 mm and 0.003 mm on the GU6 Five. Z travel does not grow: it is 650 mm on both, and the spindle nose to table distance is likewise 150 to 800 mm.
The spindle is the series electrospindle at 18,000 rpm, rated 30 kW and 84/110 Nm on the Siemens motor at S1/S6-40%. With a part of up to 1,000 kg on the table, that torque suits aluminium and finishing in steel more than heavy roughing. A turning table at 500 rpm is optional.
The GU8 Five weighs 16,000 kg (35,274 lb) and occupies 4,800 x 2,900 mm at 3,500 mm high. It carries 40 tools up to 400 mm long.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) table load with ±120° of swivel
- 1,000 x 1,100 mm X and Y travels over an 800 mm table
- 50 m/min rapid traverse on the linear axes
- Optional 500 rpm turning table for mill-turn work
- 40 tools up to 400 mm long
Limitations
- 84/110 Nm of spindle torque for parts of up to 1,000 kg
- Z travel is 650 mm, no more than on the GU6 Five
- Stated positioning widens to 0.008 mm
- A axis swivels at 25 rpm under a full table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
1,000 kg (2,205 lb) on a rotary table of 800 mm diameter. T-slot size and centre bore are 18 / 40 mm. The table swivels ±120° on A and rotates 360° on C.
02
X is 1,000 mm, Y is 1,100 mm and Z is 650 mm. Rapid traverse is 50 m/min. The spindle nose sits 150 to 800 mm from the table plane.
03
Positioning uncertainty of 0.008 mm and repeatability of 0.004 mm. These are the loosest figures in the GU range, which starts at 0.004 mm and 0.002 mm on the GU3 Five.
04
18,000 rpm, 30 kW and 84/110 Nm, quoted for a Siemens motor at S1/S6-40%. Huron's feature list names an HSK 63 electrospindle with a spindle chiller.
