Overview

ISO 60 arrives with the HNK HFB-200. The taper row for this floor-type boring machine reads ISO 60 [50 Adaptor], on a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) spindle that runs from 5 to 1,500 rpm. Smaller HFB models are ISO 50 only.

A 60 taper holds heavier cutters and longer boring bars with a stiffer joint, which is what a spindle this size is for. The adaptor entry means 50-taper tools from other machines in the shop can still be run. Expect to plan tooling in both sizes.

The rest of the machine scales with the spindle. Vertical travel is 4,000 ~ 8,000 mm (157.5 ~ 315.0 in). Ram travel is 1,500 mm (59.1 in), with 1,800 mm (70.9 in) in braces; spindle travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in), with 1,500 mm (59.1 in) in braces; and the Z and W total is 2,800 mm (110.2 in), or 3,300 mm (129.9 in) in braces. HNK says its stabilized ram extension design prevents thermal elongation and compensates ram bending, which matters most at strokes like these.

The rotary table is 5,000 x 6,000 mm (196.9 x 236.2 in) and takes 100,000 kg (220,459 lb), with 150,000 kg (330,688 lb) in braces. Column travel is 4,000 ~ 30,000 mm (157.5 ~ 1,181.1 in). Typical work is marine engine frames and bedplates, large press crowns and power-generation casings. Controls: Fanuc 31i-B, Siemens 840D.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle taper does the HFB-200 have?

The table lists ISO 60 [50 Adaptor]. The spindle is Ø200 mm (7.9 in). The HFB-180 and smaller models list ISO 50, so the HFB-200 is the first in the series with the larger taper.

02 What is the difference between the HFB-200 and the HFB-250?

Both list 4,000 ~ 8,000 mm (157.5 ~ 315.0 in) of Y and a 100,000 kg (220,459 lb) table load. The HFB-250 has a Ø250 mm (9.8 in) spindle, 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of ram travel and a 5,000 x 9,000 mm (196.9 x 354.3 in) table. The HFB-200 has 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of ram travel and a 5,000 x 6,000 mm (196.9 x 236.2 in) table.

03 How far does the HFB-200 ram extend?

Ram (Z) travel is 1,500 mm (59.1 in), with 1,800 mm (70.9 in) in braces. The spindle adds 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of W, or 1,500 mm (59.1 in) in braces, for a stated total of 2,800 mm (110.2 in).

04 How heavy a workpiece can the HFB-200 table hold?

100,000 kg (220,459 lb), with 150,000 kg (330,688 lb) shown in braces, on a rotary table of 5,000 x 6,000 mm (196.9 x 236.2 in) with 0.001° indexing.
