How much does the PAMA Speedram HP cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the PAMA Speedram HP that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Direct Drive is the point of the PAMA Speedram HP. It keeps the hydrostatic structure of the Speedram floor-type boring mill but replaces the gearbox with a directly driven boring bar, trading peak torque for speed: 3,000 - 5,000 rpm, with 66 - 108 kW and 1,175 - 3,900 Nm (S1).
No gear ranges means no range changes in the middle of a program and fewer rotating parts between motor and tool. For work that mixes boring with a good deal of milling and drilling at moderate diameters, that is the better balance. For the largest bars and the heaviest cuts the geared Speedram remains the choice, with torque listed up to 18,551 Nm.
The series is offered in six sizes, one more than the Speedram. Boring spindle diameter is 120 - 180 mm with 600 - 1,000 mm of W travel. Ram travel is longer here, 1,200 - 2,500 mm, and the combined Z+W stroke is 1,800 - 3,500 mm. The ram section is 430 x 430 - 600 x 600 mm.
Column travel on X starts at 5,000 mm and grows in 1,000 mm steps. Headstock travel on Y is 2,000 - 10,000 mm. The X and Y axes run on preloaded hydrostatic guides, the ram on hydrostatic pads, and all four linear axes rapid at up to 30,000 mm/min. Thermal growth of both ram and bar is measured and compensated.
PAMA configures the rest to the job: attachment heads, milling or turning tables, tool and head magazines, and a Siemens, Heidenhain or Fanuc control.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Direct Drive boring bar at 3,000 - 5,000 rpm, with no gear range changes
- 66 - 108 kW and 1,175 - 3,900 Nm (S1) across the series
- Ram travel of 1,200 - 2,500 mm, longer than on the geared Speedram
- Hydrostatic guides on X and Y and hydrostatic pads around the ram
- Six sizes, with Y travel up to 10,000 mm
Limitations
- Peak torque of 3,900 Nm is far below the 18,551 Nm available on the geared Speedram
- Largest boring spindle is 180 mm, against 300 mm on the Speedram
- W travel is at most 1,000 mm
- Figures are published for the series as a whole, not per size

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The boring bar is driven by a Direct Drive motor, where the Speedram uses a mechanical transmission. Spindle speed rises to 3,000 - 5,000 rpm, S1 torque is 1,175 - 3,900 Nm and S1 power 66 - 108 kW. The hydrostatic X and Y guides and the hydrostatically guided ram are kept.
02
Boring spindle diameter is 120 - 180 mm, with a W axis stroke of 600 - 1,000 mm. The ram travels 1,200 - 2,500 mm, giving a combined Z+W stroke of 1,800 - 3,500 mm. The ram section ranges from 430 x 430 to 600 x 600 mm.
03
X travel of the column is 5,000 mm plus any number of 1,000 mm extensions. Y travel of the headstock is 2,000 - 10,000 mm. The series is listed in six sizes, and rapid feed on X, Y, Z and W is up to 30,000 mm/min.
04
PAMA states the range can be configured with Siemens, Heidenhain or Fanuc CNC. Attachment heads, milling or turning tables, tool magazines and attachment head magazines are selected to suit the workpiece.
