How much does the HNK HFB-180 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the HNK HFB-180 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The HNK HFB-180 is the mid-point of the HFB floor-type boring machines and the largest that keeps a plain ISO 50 spindle taper. Its spindle is Ø180 mm (7.1 in), its vertical travel 3,000 ~ 6,000 mm (118.1 ~ 236.2 in), and its rotary table 4,000 x 5,000 mm (157.5 x 196.9 in) for 80,000 kg (176,367 lb).
Two things change at this size. The speed range shortens to 5 to 1,500 rpm, where the HFB-160 and the models below it reach 2,000 rpm. And the ram and spindle travels both reach a full metre: Z is 1,000 mm (39.4 in), with 1,500 mm (59.1 in) in braces, and W is 1,000 mm (39.4 in), with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in braces. The Z and W total is 2,000 mm (78.7 in), or 2,700 mm (106.3 in) in braces.
A column that can be six metres tall with two metres of horizontal reach puts large demands on straightness and on thermal behaviour. HNK's stated answer for the series is a stabilized ram extension design that prevents thermal elongation and compensates the bending force on the ram. On a machine this size it is reasonable to ask how the compensation is verified at acceptance.
Column travel along the floor bed is 4,000 ~ 30,000 mm (157.5 ~ 1,181.1 in). Keeping ISO 50 means standard 50-taper boring bars and milling heads fit without an adaptor. Fanuc 31i-B and Siemens 840D are the listed controls.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The vertical travel of the spindle head is 3,000 ~ 6,000 mm (118.1 ~ 236.2 in). HNK gives it as a range, so the column height is chosen at order. The HFB-160 below it stops at 4,000 mm (157.5 in).
02
Ram travel (Z) is 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and spindle travel (W) 1,000 mm (39.4 in), for a combined 2,000 mm (78.7 in). In braces HNK shows 1,500 mm (59.1 in), 1,200 mm (47.2 in) and 2,700 mm (106.3 in).
03
80,000 kg (176,367 lb), on a table of 4,000 x 5,000 mm (157.5 x 196.9 in). Heavier parts can stand on floor plates in front of the column, which the 4,000 ~ 30,000 mm (157.5 ~ 1,181.1 in) X travel is there to serve.
04
The table simply lists 5 to 1,500 rpm for the HFB-180 and the two larger models, and 5 to 2,000 rpm for the HFB-160 and the two smaller sizes. Spindle speed is a starred row, so a different range can be discussed with HNK.
