Overview

The Hedelius FORTE 7-2000 NEO is the shortest machine of the FORTE 7 NEO series, a 3-axis travelling column centre with 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of X travel, 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y and 800 mm (31.5 in) of Z. Hedelius calls it the generalist, and positions the series as the answer where machining centres with a moving table run out of travel, dynamics, table load or chip removal.

The argument rests on the fixed table. It measures 2,480 x 700 mm, has seven 18 mm T-slots at 100 mm spacing and carries 1,800 kg (3,968 lb). Since the column does all the moving, the 40 m/min feeds are available whether the table holds one vice or a full load. The spindle distance goes from 15 to 815 mm, which with 800 mm of Z gives real height for fixtures and long tools.

Three spindles are in the data sheet: SK40 / BT40 at 14,000 rpm with 117 Nm and 22 kW, the same interface with 183 Nm and 29 kW, and HSK A63 at 18,000 rpm with 136 Nm and 35 kW. Feed force is 25,000 N at most. The tool magazine travels with the column, so the ca. 10.5 s chip-to-chip time does not depend on where along X the spindle happens to be. It has 45 pockets, and optional magazines take the total to 309 tools.

Hedelius fits a closed full cabin with an integrated exhaust system, a sliding control panel and large viewing windows. The machine weighs 10,500 kg (23,148 lb), is 2,650 mm high for transport and 3,150 / 2,910 mm wide.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Fixed 2,480 x 700 mm table for 1,800 kg (3,968 lb), with dynamics that do not change with the load
  • 800 mm of Z travel and a spindle distance of 15 to 815 mm
  • Travelling tool magazine with 45 pockets, so tool changes are equally short anywhere along X
  • Closed full cabin with integrated exhaust system, sliding control panel and large viewing windows
  • Optionally up to 309 tools in the magazine

Limitations

  • Top spindle output in the data sheet is 35 kW, and the highest torque is 183 Nm
  • Y travel is 700 mm, so wide plates need the larger FORTE series
  • Three axes only in the data sheet, with no rotary table listed
  • Chip-to-chip time of ca. 10.5 s is longer than on the compact FORTE machines
06

Best For

General 3-axis work on parts up to 2,000 mm long Heavy or awkward workpieces that should not ride on a moving table Shops replacing a moving-table vertical that has run out of X travel Mixed materials, from 183 Nm steel cutting to 18,000 rpm finishing

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the working range of the FORTE 7-2000 NEO?

X 2,000 mm (78.7 in), Y 700 mm (27.6 in) and Z 800 mm (31.5 in). The fixed table has a clamping area of 2,480 x 700 mm with seven 18 mm T-slots and a table load of 1,800 kg. The spindle distance to the table is 15 to 815 mm.

02 Why does Hedelius use a travelling column on the FORTE 7-2000 NEO?

Hedelius says the design gives a high table load, consistent dynamics regardless of workpiece weight and optimised chip fall, and offers it where machines with a moving table reach their limits. On this model that means 1,800 kg on the table with 40 m/min feeds on all axes.

03 Which spindles are available on the FORTE 7-2000 NEO?

The data sheet lists three: SK40 / BT40 at 14,000 rpm with 117 Nm and 22 kW, SK40 / BT40 at 14,000 rpm with 183 Nm and 29 kW, and HSK A63 at 18,000 rpm with 136 Nm and 35 kW. For the 29 kW unit Hedelius quotes 550 cm3/min of milling in E335/St60-2.

04 How many tools does the FORTE 7-2000 NEO carry?

45 tools as standard in a magazine that travels with the column. Theoretical capacities with additional magazines are 45 / 115 / 160 / 225 / 309. Tool limits are 75 mm diameter with all pockets full, 330 mm length and 5 kg, and a change takes ca. 10.5 s chip to chip.
