Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Colchester Storm VH-1300 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Colchester Storm VH-1300 is a 1,300 mm (51.2 in) box-way vertical machining centre with a 15 kW (20.1 hp) spindle and a table rated for 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Y travel is 700 mm (27.6 in) and Z travel 710 mm (28.0 in). The table is 1,500 x 650 mm (59.1 x 25.6 in).
A mould shop will recognise the proportions. A table a metre and a half long and 650 mm deep takes a mid-size mould base or a pair of inserts side by side, the load rating covers the steel, and box ways give the damping that roughing pre-hardened blocks demands. The geared head spindle configuration Colchester offers on the VH series is aimed at this kind of cutting.
Colchester also lists a near twin, the Storm VH-1320, and the two are easy to confuse. That machine has slightly more X and Y and a deeper table, but only 650 mm (25.6 in) of Z. This one keeps the full 710 mm (28.0 in) of Z and the taller opening under the spindle, 130 - 840 mm (5.1 - 33.1 in). Tall work and long tools therefore belong here.
Tooling is BT40 in a 24-tool twin arm changer, and the spindle runs to 10,000 rpm. There are 5 T-slots of 18 mm (0.7 in). For the linear-guideway alternative at the same X travel, see the Storm VL-1300, which has a 1,450 x 700 mm (57.1 x 27.6 in) table and 11 kW (14.8 hp).
