Overview

"Extra large. Particularly strong." is how Hedelius labels the FORTE 10-3600, a 3-axis travelling column machining centre with SK50 tooling and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of X travel. Y is 1,000 mm, Z is 1,165 mm, and the fixed table takes 5,500 kg (12,125 lb) on a clamping area of 4,080 x 1,000 mm.

Start with the tools, because they define the series. The magazine carries 40 as standard, each up to 12 kg and 400 mm long. With all places filled the diameter limit is 100 mm; leave the adjoining places free, an option, and it is 140 mm. Hedelius offers access to up to 192 tools for work that needs more. Face mills and long boring tools of that size are what the spindle is built for: 300 Nm and 50 kW, in a version with 8,000 rpm or one with 12,000 rpm.

What does that buy in the cut? The data sheet answers with 1,050 cm3/min of milling and a Ø 60 mm drill in E335/St60-2, plus M 30 threads. Feed force is 34,000 N, and the axes still feed at 40 m/min. Chip-to-chip time is ca. 15 s.

Half of this table is already a large machine. Pendulum operation is listed as 1,465 x 1,465 mm, and a work area partition makes the oscillation mode possible. The table has nine 18 mm T-slots at 100 mm spacing. Hedelius quotes a positioning accuracy of A=6 µm/1,000 mm. Expect a machine of 24,500 kg (54,012 lb), 3,240 mm high and 4,230 / 3,940 mm wide for transport.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What tool sizes does the FORTE 10-3600 magazine accept?

SK50, BT50 or optionally HSK A100 tools up to 400 mm long and 12 kg. Maximum diameter is 100 mm with a full magazine and 140 mm with free adjoining places (option). The standard magazine has 40 positions and the theoretical capacity is 40 / 192.

02 How strong is the FORTE 10-3600 spindle?

300 Nm and 50 kW. It is listed with a top speed of 8,000 rpm or 12,000 rpm. Hedelius rates it at 1,050 cm3/min milling, a Ø 60 mm drill and an M 30 thread in E335/St60-2, with up to 34,000 N of feed force behind it.

03 What are the dimensions of the FORTE 10-3600 work area?

Travels are 3,600 mm in X, 1,000 mm in Y and 1,165 mm in Z, with a spindle distance of 20 to 1,185 mm. The clamping area is 4,080 x 1,000 mm and the table load 5,500 kg. In pendulum operation each of the two areas is 1,465 mm long.

04 What does the FORTE 10-3600 weigh?

24,500 kg (54,012 lb) as standard. The delivery/transport height is 3,240 mm and the width 4,230 / 3,940 mm. Those figures exceed normal door and truck dimensions, so the route into the building should be planned with the order.
