Overview

A table load of 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) under a 24,000 rpm spindle is the combination that defines the Hartford TGV-128. This high-speed machining center has 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of X travel, 800 mm (31.5 in) of Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z, and a table of 1,300 x 850 mm (51.2 x 33.5 in) with seven T-slots.

Heavy mould blocks are the obvious use. A die for a large plastic part can weigh well over a tonne before machining, and it then needs hours of finishing with small ball-nose cutters. The TGV-128 is laid out for exactly that sequence of weight and speed.

Two spindles are listed, both #40. The DDS spindle comes in 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 rpm versions, the last marked FANUC in the table, and the built-in spindle runs at 24,000 rpm. The motor is 7.5 / 11 kW with 15 / 18.5 kW as the option (Cont. / 30 min). Shanks are BT40, with BBT, CAT, DIN and HSK A63 as alternatives. The arm-type magazine holds 24 tools, with 30 or 40 available.

Hartford points to the wide stance of the Y axis on this model: a Y-axis guideway span of 700mm, which it says increases structural rigidity by 64%, and a stop pin design on the bearing housing for a further 14% in axis rigidity. Stated accuracy under MGPS is positioning within 8μm and repeatability within 5μm.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) table load on a 1,300 x 850 mm (51.2 x 33.5 in) table
  • Built-in spindle at 24,000 rpm or DDS spindle at 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 rpm
  • Y-axis guideway span of 700mm, with a 64% structural rigidity gain claimed by Hartford
  • 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z travel for deep cavities and tall blocks
  • Magazine of 24 tools, expandable to 30 or 40

Limitations

  • Base spindle motor is 7.5 / 11 kW; the 15 / 18.5 kW unit is an option
  • Only #40 spindles are listed, so heavy roughing of large blocks is better done elsewhere
  • The 20,000 rpm DDS spindle is tied to FANUC in the table
  • Feed rates and rapid traverse are not published on the product page

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How heavy a workpiece can the Hartford TGV-128 take?

The average table load is 2,500 kg (5,511 lb). The table measures 1,300 x 850 mm (51.2 x 33.5 in) and has T-slots listed as 18 x 125 (7) mm.

02 What are the spindle options on the TGV-128?

A DDS direct-drive spindle listed as 10,000 / 15,000 / 20,000 (FANUC) rpm and a built-in spindle at 24,000 rpm, both with a #40 nose. The motor is 7.5 / 11 kW, with 15 / 18.5 kW optional, as continuous / 30 min ratings.

03 What does Hartford say about the rigidity of the TGV-128?

It highlights the great span of the Y-axis linear guideway: a Y-axis span of 700mm, said to raise structural rigidity by 64%, and a bearing housing stop pin design credited with a 14% gain in axis rigidity.

04 How does the TGV-128 compare with the TGV-1612?

The TGV-1612 is the larger machine: 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X, 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Y, the same 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z and a 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) table. It also adds a #50 spindle choice, which the TGV-128 does not have.
