Overview

The Kiwa Triple V22 is a column-traverse vertical machining center sold in two forms: a single fixed table of 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in), or a two-pallet version with 820 x 410 mm (32.3 x 16.1 in) pallets that swap by a 180 deg. turn. Choosing between them changes the X travel and the footprint, so it is the first decision on this model.

With the single table, X is 610 mm (24.0 in). The two-pallet machine has 740 mm (29.1 in). Y and Z are the same on both, 410 mm (16.1 in) and 510 mm (20.1 in), and the maximum workpiece height is 600 mm (23.6 in). Floor space grows from 1,998 x 3,074 mm (78.7 x 121.0 in) to 2,116 x 3,837 mm (83.3 x 151.1 in) with the pallet changer, so check the longer figure against the bay before choosing it.

Speed is the other reason to look at this model. Rapids are 60,000 mm/min (2,362 ipm) as standard and 75,000 mm/min (2,953 ipm) as an option. The spindle starts at 10,000 min-1, with 12,000 and 15,000 min-1 listed above it, and the taper can be BT40, CAT40 or HSK-A63. The Triple V21i shares the single-table travels but lists none of the 15,000 min-1, HSK-A63 or faster-rapid options.

All three axes move with the column. Kiwa's reason is practical: a fixed table makes it easy to arrange fixtures and rotary tables. The magazine holds 24 tools, or 30 as an option, and the 30-tool magazine adds 250 mm (9.8 in) to the machine width. The control is the FANUC 0i-MF Plus.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Available with a single 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in) table or as a two-pallet machine with 820 x 410 mm (32.3 x 16.1 in) pallets
  • The two-pallet version has 740 mm (29.1 in) of X travel
  • Optional rapids of 75,000 mm/min (2,953 ipm) above the standard 60,000 mm/min (2,362 ipm)

  • Workpieces up to 600 mm (23.6 in) high with 510 mm (20.1 in) of Z travel

Limitations

  • Y travel is 410 mm (16.1 in) on both versions
  • The pallet changer lengthens the footprint to 2,116 x 3,837 mm (83.3 x 151.1 in)
  • The 30-tool magazine adds 250 mm (9.8 in) to the width, and 30 is the largest magazine listed
  • Table load, spindle power and torque are not among the listed rows

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the single-table and two-pallet Triple V22?

The single-table machine has an 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in) table and 610 mm (24.0 in) of X travel in a footprint of 1,998 x 3,074 mm (78.7 x 121.0 in). The two-pallet version carries two 820 x 410 mm (32.3 x 16.1 in) pallets, exchanged by a 180 deg. turn, with 740 mm (29.1 in) of X and a footprint of 2,116 x 3,837 mm (83.3 x 151.1 in). Y, Z and workpiece height do not change.

02 How does the Triple V22 differ from the Triple V21i?

The two share the 820 x 450 mm table and the 610 x 410 x 510 mm travels of the single-table machine. The Triple V22 adds options the Triple V21i table does not list: a 15,000 min-1 spindle, an HSK-A63 taper and 75,000 mm/min (2,953 ipm) rapids. Its control is the FANUC 0i-MF Plus, where the Triple V21i lists the FANUC 0i-M.

03 Which spindle speeds and tapers are offered on the Triple V22?

The standard spindle speed is 10,000 min-1, and 12,000 min-1 and 15,000 min-1 are options. The standard taper is BT40, with CAT40 and HSK-A63 as alternatives. The table does not state the drive type, power or torque of any of the three spindles, so those have to be requested.

04 How many tools does the Triple V22 carry?

The magazine holds 24 tools as standard and 30 as an option. Choosing the 30-tool magazine adds 250 mm (9.8 in) to the machine width, which matters when machines stand side by side. No larger magazine and no tool diameter, length or weight limits are listed.
