Overview

The Hartford HSA-836 is the largest HSA double-column machining center: an 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) table rated for 30,000 kg (66,138 lb), with 8,000 mm (315.0 in) of X travel and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y.

Thirty tonnes is the highest table load Hartford publishes for a moving-table machine, a figure it shares with the MW-843. The two machines suit different work. The MW-843 has a moving cross-beam and automatic heads for five-face machining of tall parts. The HSA-836 has a fixed beam, which is simpler and stiffer over a fixed height range, and it adds a 12,000 rpm built-in spindle that the MW-843 does not list.

For flat, heavy parts the fixed beam is the better tool: large die sets, base plates, platens and frames that need accurate faces and hole patterns over many square metres. Both ballscrews are supported as standard on this model, and the table rides on three linear guideways.

The spindle is #50 with a gear head at 6,000 / 8,000 rpm, a DDS unit at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm or the built-in unit. Motors: 15 / 18.5 kW, optionally 18.5 / 22 kW, 22 / 26 kW or 30 /37 kW. Z travel is 780 mm, or 1,000 mm or 1,200 mm. The magazine holds 32 tools, or 40 or 60.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) table load, the highest in the HSA line
  • 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) table with 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel
  • X and Y ballscrew support standard, by Hartford's statements
  • 12,000 rpm built-in spindle option, not listed for the MW-843
  • Three X-axis linear guideways

Limitations

  • Fixed cross-beam with at most 1,200 mm of Z travel
  • No automatic head change described
  • Motor options end at 30 /37 kW for a 30-tonne table
  • Installation data are not published

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the largest HSA model?

The HSA-836. Its table is 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in), its travels are 8,000 mm (315.0 in) in X and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) in Y, and its table load is 30,000 kg (66,138 lb).

02 What Z travel does the HSA-836 have?

780 mm as listed, with 1,000 mm and 1,200 mm as options. The cross-beam is fixed, so the Z stroke sets the range of part heights.

03 How does the HSA-836 compare with the MW-843?

Both carry 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) on an 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) table. The MW-843 has a moving cross-beam, 4,300 mm (169.3 in) of Y and automatic angular heads. The HSA-836 has a fixed beam and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y.

04 What spindle power is available on the HSA-836?

15 / 18.5 kW as the base rating and 18.5 / 22 kW, 22 / 26 kW or 30 /37 kW as options, continuous / 30 min, on a #50 spindle.
