Overview
The Mazak VC-500C/2PC is a two-pallet, 40-taper vertical machining center, larger than the VC-500A/2PC. Its listed travels are 762 × 510 × 510 mm (30.0 × 20.1 × 20.1 in), and it works from two 630 x 500 mm (24.8 x 19.7 in) pallets rated at 400 kg (882 lb) each. Mazak does not show it in the current lineup, and the listed figures have to be confirmed on any machine offered for sale.
Size is the whole difference from its smaller relative. The VC-500A/2PC is listed at 560 × 410 × 460 mm (22.0 × 16.1 × 18.1 in) with 500 x 400 mm (19.7 x 15.7 in) pallets and 300 kg (661 lb) per pallet, so the C model gains travel on all three axes and a third more pallet load. The larger pallet is slower to exchange, about 10 seconds against about 8 seconds on the VC-500A/2PC. The C model weighs approximately 7,000 kg (15,432 lb).
The axis figures line up well with the pallet. Y travel of 510 mm (20.1 in) covers the 500 mm (19.7 in) pallet depth, and X travel of 762 mm (30.0 in) runs past both ends of the 630 mm (24.8 in) pallet length. Z matches Y at 510 mm (20.1 in), which gives height for a fixture plate, a vise and a long drill stacked on the pallet.
A 12,000 RPM CAT No. 40 spindle is listed at 18.5 kW (25 hp) with no duty rating. The 30-tool arm-type changer is listed at 1.6 seconds chip-to-chip, rapids at 42 m/min (1,654 ipm) in X and Y and 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in Z, and through-spindle coolant at 20 bar as standard. All axes are on linear roller guides.
