Overview

The Anderson VMC-1876 sits in the middle of Anderson's 760 mm Y vertical machining centers, with 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of X travel, 760 mm (29.9 in) of Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) of Z. Its table is 1,900 x 760 mm (74.8 x 29.9 in) and takes 2,100 kg (4,630 lb).

Each step in this family adds X travel and table capacity, and little else. The VMC-1876 weighs 9,100 kg (20,062 lb) and measures 4,970 x 3,470 x 3,190 mm (195.7 x 136.6 x 125.6 in). Width and height are the same as on the VMC-1676; only the length changes. If the longest regular part fits the 1,600 mm (63.0 in) X travel of the VMC-1676, the smaller machine does the same work. If parts or fixture plates run past that, this is the size that avoids repositioning.

A table 1,900 mm long and 760 mm deep invites long work or a row of vises. Several vises fit in a line with room between them, which makes the machine a candidate for multi-part setups as much as for single long parts. Spindle nose to table is 140 ~ 840 mm (5.5 ~ 33.1 in).

The spindle rows are identical across the family: ISO 40 with ISO 50 optional, 8,000 rpm as the base speed with faster versions listed, an 11/15 kW motor and belt drive with direct and gearbox alternatives. The 24 tool magazine can be ordered larger. Rapids are 24/24/24 m/min. Anderson lists a 500 L coolant tank with a 200 L/min pump and dual augers for chip removal, and states that every machine is checked by laser calibration and ballbar testing. The control is FANUC 0i-MF Plus.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of X travel on a 1,900 x 760 mm (74.8 x 29.9 in) table
  • Table load of 2,100 kg (4,630 lb)
  • Same width and height as the VMC-1676, so the longer travel costs only length
  • 500 L coolant tank with 200 L/min flow and dual chip augers
  • ±0.008 mm positioning accuracy and ±0.004 mm repeatability

Limitations

  • Y travel is 760 mm (29.9 in) on every size; more X does not bring more Y
  • Base rapids are 24/24/24 m/min
  • Tool weight limit of 7 kg (15 lb) restricts large face mills on the ISO 40 spindle
  • Machine weight of 9,100 kg (20,062 lb) and a length of 4,970 mm need floor planning

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long is the VMC-1876 table?

1,900 x 760 mm (74.8 x 29.9 in), with a working area of 1,800 x 760 mm (70.9 x 29.9 in). X travel is 1,800 mm (70.9 in). The table carries a maximum of 2,100 kg (4,630 lb).

02 How much floor space does the VMC-1876 need?

Machine dimensions are 4,970 x 3,470 x 3,190 mm (195.7 x 136.6 x 125.6 in) and the weight is 9,100 kg (20,062 lb). Those are the machine's own figures; allow extra room for chip removal, the electrical cabinet doors and service access.

03 What accuracy does Anderson list for the VMC-1876?

Positioning accuracy of ±0.008 mm and repeatability of ±0.004 mm. Anderson describes linear guides on all axes and thermal management that includes spindle cooling and temperature compensation. The table does not state the standard the accuracy figures are measured to.

04 Should I choose the VMC-1876 or the VMC-2076?

The VMC-2076 adds X travel, 2,000 mm (78.7 in) against 1,800 mm (70.9 in), and table load, 2,400 kg (5,291 lb) against 2,100 kg (4,630 lb). The VMC-2076 is also longer and heavier at 10,000 kg (22,046 lb). Spindle, magazine, Y and Z travels and control are the same, so the choice comes down to part length.
