Hartford LG-500 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Hartford LG-500 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Hartford or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Hartford LG-500 is the smallest vertical machining center in the LG line. Travels are 520 mm (20.5 in) in X, 420 mm (16.5 in) in Y and 450 mm (17.7 in) in Z over a 620 x 420 mm (24.4 x 16.5 in) table, with a #40 spindle nose and BT40 tooling.

Small does not mean slow here. The LG-500 is offered with the same spindle speed lists as its larger siblings, a pulley head at 8,000 / 10,000 / 12,000 rpm or a DDS direct-drive head at 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm, and Hartford quotes a maximum rapid traverse rate of 30,000 mm / min for its linear guideways. Where it differs is the motor: the row reads 5.5 / 7.5 kW (Cont. / 30 min), without the 11 kW step listed for the LG-800 and LG-1000.

The table takes an average load of 300 kg (661 lb). That is enough for a vise, a small fourth axis or a fixture plate of aluminium parts, and not much more. The tool magazine is an arm type with 24 pockets, and no larger magazine is listed for this size.

Is a 40-taper spindle wasted on an envelope this small? Not if the parts are steel or the tools are long: the LG-500 keeps the dual-contact BBT option, which Hartford says can raise rigidity up to 30%, and the same one-piece bed and direct-coupled ballscrew drives described for the bigger LG machines.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Full #40 spindle with BT40 tooling on a 520 x 420 x 450 mm envelope
  • Maximum rapid traverse rate of 30,000 mm / min, as stated by Hartford for the linear guideway design
  • DDS direct-drive spindle available at 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm
  • 24-tool arm-type changer as listed equipment
  • Y travel of 420 mm (16.5 in) covers the full table depth

Limitations

  • Table load is limited to 300 kg (661 lb)
  • Spindle motor row tops out at 5.5 / 7.5 kW (Cont. / 30 min); the LG-800 lists up to 11 kW
  • Z travel of 450 mm (17.7 in) leaves little room once a rotary table and a long tool are in place
  • The magazine is listed with 24 tools only

Best For

Small precision parts in steel or aluminium Second-operation work beside larger machines Cells where floor space per spindle matters more than envelope Short-cycle parts that benefit from 30,000 mm / min rapids

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size parts fit the Hartford LG-500?

The axes cover 520 mm (20.5 in) in X, 420 mm (16.5 in) in Y and 450 mm (17.7 in) in Z. The table is 620 x 420 mm (24.4 x 16.5 in) and is rated for an average load of 300 kg (661 lb), including the workholding.

02 What spindle power does the LG-500 have?

Hartford lists the spindle drive motor as 5.5 / 7.5 kW (Cont. / 30 min). Spindle speeds are 8,000 / 10,000 / 12,000 rpm with the pulley head and 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm with the DDS head. No torque figure is published on the product page.

03 Which tool taper does the LG-500 use?

40-taper. The spindle nose is listed as #40 and the tool shank as BT40, with BBT, CAT and DIN named as alternatives. Hartford's 30-taper machines are the SMC models; the SMC-5 has a similar 500 mm (19.7 in) X travel with a BT30 spindle.

04 How does the LG-500 compare with the LG-800?

The LG-800 is larger in every axis, at 800 mm (31.5 in) by 510 mm (20.1 in) by 630 mm (24.8 in), carries 500 kg (1,102 lb) and can take a 30-tool magazine. The LG-500 trades that capacity for a smaller machine with the same spindle speed choices.
