Overview

The Hartford SW-626 is the largest SW: a box-guideway double-column machining center with a 6,000 x 2,500 mm (236.2 x 98.4 in) table, 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel, 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of Y and a 16,500 kg (36,376 lb) table load.

Box ways at this scale are a deliberate choice. Linear guideways would move the table faster, and Hartford's HSA line of double-column machines uses them. The SW keeps scraped, Turcite-lined box ways for their damping in heavy interrupted cuts, and adds the hybrid air suspension that Hartford credits with halving quadrant error. The buyer is trading traverse speed for cut stability.

Under the table are 4 box guideways. The X and Y ballscrews are both supported. The gear spindle, #50 at 4,000 / 6,000 rpm, is the reason to buy the machine; the DDS spindle at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm lets it finish what it has roughed. The largest motor option is 30/37 kW, above a base of 15/18.5 kW.

Z travel is 780 mm, or 1,070 mm as an option. Tools are BT-50 in an S-type changer, listed as S: 20, or an arm-type changer with 32 tools, or 40. An angle head extends the machine to the sides of the workpiece.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Largest SW table: 6,000 x 2,500 mm (236.2 x 98.4 in) for 16,500 kg (36,376 lb)
  • 4 box guideways on the base with supported X and Y ballscrews
  • Hybrid air suspension on the box guideways
  • #50 gear spindle at 4,000 / 6,000 rpm with a 30/37 kW motor option
  • Angle head available for machining the sides of a part

Limitations

  • Table load rises only slightly over the SW-623's 16,000 kg (35,273 lb)
  • Box ways mean lower traverse speeds than Hartford's linear-guide HSA machines, and no rate is published
  • Z travel of 780 mm, or 1,070 mm, is modest for a machine this size
  • Tool magazine is limited to 40 tools

Best For

Heavy interrupted cutting on very large steel parts Long, wide die sets and press components Machine tool beds and columns Workpieces up to 16,500 kg (36,376 lb)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the specifications of the Hartford SW-626?

X travel 6,000 mm (236.2 in), Y travel 2,600 mm (102.4 in), Z travel 780 mm or optionally 1,070 mm, table 6,000 x 2,500 mm (236.2 x 98.4 in), table load 16,500 kg (36,376 lb), #50 spindle.

02 Why choose the box-way SW-626 over a linear-guide machine?

For damping in heavy cuts. Hartford describes the SW slant beam structure as excellent for heavy cutting and fits a self-made gear-driven spindle head with great force output at low speed. Linear-guide alternatives in Hartford's range are the HSA models.

03 What spindle speeds does the SW-626 have?

4,000 / 6,000 rpm with the gear spindle and 10,000 / 12,000 rpm with the DDS spindle. The motor is 15/18.5 kW, optionally 18.5/22 kW, 22/26 kW or 30/37 kW (Cont. / 30 min).

04 How many tools does the SW-626 carry?

The ATC row reads S: 20 A: 32(40) pcs. That is an S-type changer entered as S: 20, or an arm-type changer with 32 tools, or 40, all with BT-50 shanks.
