Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Republic Lagun VBMA-1300 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Tall and long workpieces are where the Republic Lagun VBMA-1300 separates from the smaller VBMA bed mills. Z travel is 28 in (711 mm), X travel 51 in (1,295 mm) and Y travel 24 in (610 mm), over a table of 71 x 17 in (1,803 x 432 mm) rated for 1,760 lb (798 kg).
Lagun describes the structure in some detail. The saddle is extra wide and supports almost 100% of the table length, which limits table droop when a heavy part sits near one end. The X axis slides on a dovetail, while Y and Z use box ways; all are hardened and ground and faced with Turcite B, which the maker says also helps damp vibration in interrupted cuts. Each axis has a large diameter double-nut ball screw driven through 1:2 ratio timing belt pulleys to raise drive torque.
The head carries a 5 HP (3.7 kW) NST# 40 spindle with a top speed of 3,600 rpm and 5.5 in (140 mm) of quill travel. That is the same spindle rating as the VBMA-1000, on a machine with far more travel, so metal removal per pass is no higher; what grows is the size of part that can be reached in one setup.
Fanuc 0i-MF controls are stated as standard. The table X and Y axes can be moved by a manual pulse generator and the quill by hand for manual machining. Steel telescopic covers protect X and Y, with an accordion cover on the Z ways, and lubrication is fully automatic. Positioning accuracy is listed at 0.0004 in/ft.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 28 in (711 mm) of Z travel and 24 in (610 mm) of Y travel
- Extra-wide saddle supporting almost 100% of the table length
- Double-nut ball screws on all three axes with 1:2 ratio timing belt drives
- Dovetail X axis and box-way Y and Z, hardened, ground and faced with Turcite B
- Fanuc 0i-MF controls stated as standard
Limitations
- Same 5 HP (3.7 kW), 3,600 rpm spindle as the much smaller VBMA-1000
- Table is 17 in (432 mm) wide against 24 in (610 mm) of Y travel
- The Z ways have an accordion rubber cover, not steel telescopic covers
- Quill travel of 5.5 in (140 mm) is the only manual Z movement described

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 51 in (1,295 mm), Y travel 24 in (610 mm) and Z travel 28 in (711 mm). The table is 71 x 17 in (1,803 x 432 mm) with a weight capacity of 1,760 lb (798 kg).
02
A dovetail design on the X axis and box ways on Y and Z. The maker says the ways are hardened and ground, with Turcite B anti-friction material on the sliding surfaces and gibs, and that full automatic lubrication is fitted.
03
The VBMA-1600 extends X travel to 63 in (1,600 mm) and Y travel to 28 in (711 mm) and has an 86.6 x 20 in (2,200 x 508 mm) table rated for 2,200 lb (998 kg). Z travel is 28 in (711 mm) on both, and both list a 5 HP (3.7 kW) spindle at 3,600 rpm.
04
Lagun describes the VBMA-1300 as featuring standard Fanuc 0i-MF controls. The X and Y axes can also be moved with a manual pulse generator, and the quill can be moved up and down by hand for manual machining.
